Advice for people who "can't get started without a trigger"
How often does Aono Ugo go for runs these days?
I go for a run about three times a week. When I have time, I run about 15-20 kilometers, and when I don't have time, I run about 5 kilometers. It's become a habit now. How about you, Aono?
Aono: I also run about 10-20 kilometers three times a week. I run along the Sumida River, and there's no one faster than me, so I've never been overtaken. On days when I feel like I'm running well, I get a bit carried away with myself (laughs).
I run three times a week , and when I'm busy and there's a gap between runs, I feel like my metabolism slows down (laughs), so I run even in the rain. I run along the Arakawa River, and I enjoy running while looking at the scenery of rape blossoms stretching as far as the eye can see, and it feels great when my body warms up in the winter. When do you feel good when you run, Aono-san?
Aono: Lately, I've been running when I'm on business trips to other regions. I enjoy running in unfamiliar places in the morning, but what I like best is running with someone else.
I myself run around the Imperial Palace with members of the Isetan team and participate in ekiden (long-distance relay races), but for people who say, "I can't start running unless I have a reason," setting the goal of participating in a race is a good idea.
Aono: That's absolutely right. Rather than running alone, joining a running community or training group allows you to run with various people and communicate with them, which helps resolve the feeling of "I don't know what to do."
When I participate in the Ugome Race, the start and finish lines are on an athletics stadium, which I don't usually get to run on, so I feel a sense of accomplishment and exhilaration that I can't experience when running alone, and I think, "I want to participate again next time!"
Running in a group is much easier physically. Running 10km, a half marathon, and 30km will help you understand your own capabilities and predict your time for a full marathon.
Ugo: It's true that there are limits to what you can do when running alone, but when you participate in training sessions or races, water stations are provided, so you can run in good condition.
In the next installment, we'll explain why On shoes are the perfect first choice and provide specific winter training methods, so please look forward to it!
