ISHIKAWA
Each Ishikawa clothing brush is handcrafted at Ishikawa's home in Yokohama, with the bristles meticulously attached one by one. These brushes reflect the dedication of the creator and founder, Kazuo Ishikawa. After years of research, Ishikawa focused on the seemingly contradictory qualities of calligraphy brushes: their soft touch and firmness. He consulted and sought guidance from fellow craftsman and brush maker Yoshiyama Kashima, with whom he had a working relationship, and created a clothing brush using a special type of hair called "owakige," which grows at the base of the tail and is equivalent to the feathers in fur. Clothing brushes using horse "owakige," which satisfy the seemingly contradictory conditions of softness and firmness, are far more flexible than brushes using "hon-hair," which grows on the surface of the horse's tail, even without longer bristles. This allows the brush to maintain its firmness and possess ideal tension and resilience. The fine texture and volume smooth the fabric and enhance its feel. While it requires several times more effort than traditional brush making, selecting good materials and investing time in their creation results in a superior product. The brush not only removes fine dust from cashmere, kimonos, and silk fabrics, but also smooths the surface of the fabric, preserving its original texture. This product embodies Mr. Ishikawa's desire for it to be used as a tool for richer attire, protecting the original condition of the material and deepening its luster and sheen.
