A men's shoe buyer reveals the full story of the astonishing evolution of "high-end" shoes.

The high-end men's shoe corner on the first basement floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building which was established in 2005, reopened on Wednesday, September 19th, after a renovation. Not only has the sales floor space been expanded, but the product selection and services have also matured. Takashi Fukuda , the buyer in charge, reveals the full extent of the evolution of this world-class men's shoe floor.

Enclosed by walls reminiscent of gold leaf and Japanese paper, this semi-closed corner has expanded by 15 square meters to 70 square meters. In line with the building's overall "Japan" theme, it has transformed into an unprecedented men's shoe floor.

"Our high-end corner was established in 2005. Thanks to the support of our customers, it has gradually grown in depth. This year, we are undertaking a major renovation of Isetan Men's, and our high-end corner, which is the symbol of our men's shoe floor, will be leading the way."

The biggest highlight is the newly established bespoke shoe salon, which offers permanent pattern-made shoes. Nine high-end brands, including Edward Green and Enzo Bonafe , are gathered in one place, and orders are accepted at all times. This alone is irresistible for shoe lovers, but what's even more impressive is that each brand has approximately 10 samples on display. The rows of samples are simply spectacular. It is probably the first time in the world that so many brands and so many samples have been permanently available in one place.

"At our limited-time trunk show, customers couldn't compare products before buying. The number of samples was also limited. We wanted to recreate the purchasing experience that's taken for granted with ready-made products—being surrounded by the scent of leather and carefully comparing different pieces—through our pattern-order service."

The attentive service at the shoe care counter is truly impressive. A stylist is always on hand in the corner stocked with care products, and they will polish shoes purchased from the high-end section free of charge at any time. If you don't have time to visit the store, the cash-on-delivery home delivery service is another welcome feature.

In addition to Yohei Fukuda and Otsuka Shoe Company , the bespoke line, which was previously only available at trunk shows, is now permanently stocked. The ready-to-wear shoe collection, featuring brands like Gaziano & Girling and Saint Crispin's , is also a must-see for any shoe enthusiast.

"We will be actively holding events. For our first event after the reopening, we hosted a trunk show by up-and-coming bespoke shoemaker Yugo Hayano . We also plan to regularly invite renowned shoe shiners to our shoe care counter. Our goal is to create a salon-like space. We want to be more than just a place to display shoes; we want to be a place where our customers can have a variety of experiences. To help them relax and enjoy their time here, we offer drink service and mobile phone charging services. There would be nothing more gratifying than for us to become a place where makers and buyers can interact across boundaries. We hope to become a hub for promoting men's shoe culture."
