Dieter Dornblüth, the founder of D. Dornblüth & Sohn, opened his watch repair business in 1959 in the town of Salzwedel, Germany. In 1999, he began manufacturing watches in-house with his son Dirk in the neighboring town of Calvet, where their current workshop is located.
When they first started manufacturing their own watches, they based their movements on general-purpose Swiss pocket watch movements, modifying them to create movements that were distinctly German by incorporating their own custom-made parts. This allowed them to produce models with various added functions, but today they have downsized all their designs in-house, creating movements that fit into cases with a diameter of less than 40 mm.
Because they adhere to traditional methods using tools and machinery, their monthly production is limited to approximately 10 pieces, a number comparable to that of a fine art piece. As a result, each item is made to order, requiring approximately 8 months from order to completion.
"Q-2010.1 (GR) ST" 1,490,400 yen
Stainless steel case: 38.5mm diameter, approximately 52-hour power reserve, 3 ATM water resistance, manual winding.
This standard model from D. Dornblüth & Sohn features an in-house hand-wound movement perfected after years of prototyping. While possessing a substantial feel, its 38.5mm case diameter makes it comfortable to wear. The highly legible design, reminiscent of a ship's deck watch, is another characteristic of the company's craftsmanship.
