[2026 Autumn/Winter Trends] Men's department buyers bring you the latest information. What kind of "clothes with a reason" should you choose now?
At the Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , a pre-order event was held on the 5th floor, in the men's tailored clothing section, which has many fans within the building, to give customers an early look at the Fall/Winter 2026 collection. Although summer is not yet in full swing, new items that will color the next season were already on display at the venue. This time, we will introduce the highlights of the Fall/Winter 2026 collection along with a report on the pre-order event.

The key to understanding this season's selection lies in three themes: "DAILY ESSENTIALS," "MASTERPIECE," and "JAPAN SENSES." High quality and versatility that can be relied upon in all aspects of daily life. The joy of wearing timeless masterpieces and the pleasure of discovering future staples. And the satisfaction of choosing clothes that include the background of uniquely Japanese technology and craftsmanship. We asked Tomohiro Inaba, the buyer in charge of tailored clothing, about the background and specific items related to these three values that today's adults seek in clothing.

  1. Topic1: “DAILY ESSENTIALS” —Thoughtful, high-quality items that will be useful in your everyday wardrobe—
    1. TAGLIATORE 's popular spring/summer set-up is now available in an autumn/winter version.
    2. Morimoto transforms heavy leather into a lightweight shirt.
  2. Topic 2: "MASTERPIECE" —The joy of wearing a masterpiece, and what will become a new classic—
    1. Steinbock's traditional Loden coat, now available in modern sizing.
    2. Slopeslow – Next-generation sweatpants made from wool –
  3. Topic 3: "JAPAN SENSES" —Focusing on Japanese technology and the background of manufacturing—
    1. ES:S trench coat retains its basic structure but is now available in a more modern, wearable style.
    2. A soft set-up born from TOHNAI fabric making.
  4. From now on, choosing clothes will go beyond just appearances.

Topic1: “DAILY ESSENTIALS”
—Thoughtful, high-quality items that will be useful in your everyday wardrobe—

While we no longer strictly separate our work and leisure clothes, and there are more days when we don't wear jackets, there are still situations where overly casual attire feels inadequate. What's needed is clothing that is comfortable and lightweight, yet looks polished and professional.
The key point is that it can be worn in a wide range of situations, depending on how you combine it with other items such as suits, leather shirts, and mid-gauge knits. One of this season's themes, "DAILY ESSENTIALS," represents not obvious embellishments or luxury, but rather "thoughtful quality" that you can appreciate as you wear it every day.

Inaba explains the background as follows:

" Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 5th floor, we have always valued classic tailoring, but now the climate, lifestyles, and preferred fittings have changed. We want something that is a little more relaxed and easy to wear, yet still looks high quality. For this autumn/winter season, we plan to offer a wide range of items that are easy to incorporate into everyday wear, such as suits, leather shirts, and knitwear," (Inaba)

TAGLIATORE 's popular spring/summer set-up is now available in an autumn/winter version.

This theme is succinctly expressed in TAGLIATORE 's shirt-style top and easy pants set. The short-sleeved model, which was popular in Spring/Summer 2026, has been adapted into a long-sleeved version for Autumn/Winter.
The top is a collared shirt style, designed to be worn more lightly than a jacket. It uses stretch fabric from "REDA," one of Italy's leading fabric manufacturers, and the pants feature a shirred waistband, drawstring, and one pleat for a comfortable fit.

When worn together, the top and bottom create a neat and polished look, and each piece can also be easily combined with existing knitwear and pants. This is a versatile set that can be used in a wide range of situations.

"Our short-sleeved spring/summer models were very well-received, and we felt there was a demand for clothing that looked neat when worn as a set, but wasn't as formal as a jacket. This time, we've created a long-sleeved version. It can be worn like a shirt, and the pants are easy to wear, so I think it can be used both on workdays and on weekends," (Inaba)

Morimoto transforms heavy leather into a lightweight shirt.

Leather wear has expanded beyond heavy, bulky types like biker jackets to include options that can be worn like shirts or blousons. This time, Inaba commissioned a goat suede shirt crafted by leather artisan Morimoto.

Morimoto is a brand that reinterprets vintage clothing from its own unique perspective, offering leather wear that pursues excellence in materials and tailoring. This time, they've used thinly skived, soft goat suede to create a simple design that's easy to throw on.
The garment has a comfortable, relaxed fit without appearing overly oversized. The length is designed to be worn both tucked in and untucked, and features such as a sweat-wicking lining have been incorporated to make it suitable for everyday wear.

"Leather makes a statement on its own, but if it's stiff and heavy, you tend to wear it less often. So, I asked Mr. Morimoto to create a shirt that can be easily worn over a T-shirt or sweater. It's soft, so the buttons are easy to fasten, and in autumn and winter, you can pair it with a turtleneck. It's a piece that allows you to enjoy leather as everyday wear." (Inaba)

Topic 2: "MASTERPIECE"
—The joy of wearing a masterpiece, and what will become a new classic—

Topic 2: "MASTERPIECE" - The joy of wearing a masterpiece, and what will become a new classic -
With clothing prices rising and shopping requiring careful consideration, Inaba says that people are once again choosing garments that they want to wear for a long time, rather than just those that are new and exciting. Masterpieces that have been passed down through generations offer a sense of satisfaction that can only be gained by knowing their history and actually wearing them.
On the other hand, in the pursuit of comfort and ease of use that suits modern lifestyles, some garments that could become future staples are being created. In our second topic, "MASTERPIECE," we will look at both masterpieces that have already received high praise and products that hint at becoming the next generation of classics.

"Traditional items and authentic products have always been a core focus Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 5th Floor. However, it's not just about items that have been considered masterpieces for a long time. I believe that clothing that is carefully crafted to fit the needs of today's men's wardrobes will also become masterpieces in the future," (Inaba)

Steinbock's traditional Loden coat, now available in modern sizing.

The Loden coat is a traditional Austrian outerwear piece.
This garment retains much of its traditional form, with its thick loden cloth, deep olive color, and long length. It can be worn neatly fitted to the body, or, more recently, chosen in a slightly larger size for a more relaxed, oversized look.

What attracted Inaba was the fact that you can bring out a fresh look by changing how you wear the clothes, without actually changing the clothes themselves.
"What's great about this coat is that it hasn't been modernized. The material and tailoring remain traditional, but when you wear it a little oversized with a modern sensibility, it actually looks fresh. It's not about changing the garment itself, but about changing the wearer's interpretation, which allows you to enjoy a masterpiece in a contemporary way." (Inaba)

Slopeslow – Next-generation sweatpants made from wool –

Another item Inaba recommends as a future staple is a pair of 100% wool sweatpants from Slopeslow. By knitting the wool yarn at a high density, the outside has a smooth and firm texture. The inside is lined with a fleece lining with large loops, providing a warm and comfortable feel.

The weight of the fabric allows the fabric to fall straight down to the hem, preventing the baggy look often associated with sweatpants. A gusset is incorporated into the crotch area for added ease of movement. The way the weight feels different when you hold it compared to when you wear it is another unique feature of these pants.

"Slope Slow is a knitwear brand known to those in the know, founded by a Japanese couple who have been involved in knitwear making for many years. These pants are made from a very densely woven fabric, and they feel heavy when you pick them up, but you don't really notice the weight when you wear them. The fabric drapes nicely, so even though they are sweatpants, they have a beautiful silhouette. They are warm on the inside and have a good hold around the waist. They are comfortable to wear and look elegant, so I think they are a new staple that suits today's lifestyle." (Inaba)

Topic 3: "JAPAN SENSES"
—Focusing on Japanese technology and the background of manufacturing—

Topic 3: "JAPAN SENSES" - Focusing on Japanese technology and the background of manufacturing -
Inaba says that knowing not only the brand's name recognition, but also where the materials are made, who creates the patterns, and what kind of sewing processes are used to create a finished garment, is also a source of satisfaction in shopping these days.
The third theme, "JAPAN SENSES," addresses these interests.

Japan boasts numerous artisans who have honed their skills in various fields, including material development, pattern design, and sewing. Amid rising prices for imported goods, Japanese products are once again attracting attention for their meticulous craftsmanship and the balance they strike between quality and price.

"Japanese clothing is not just about meticulous stitching. It's about carefully considering everything from how the materials are made, to how they are transformed into shapes, and how the finished product looks. I want to properly convey the background of the creators, including not only designer brands, but also shirt and tie factories and the work of Japanese tailors," (Inaba)

ES:S trench coat retains its basic structure but is now available in a more modern, wearable style.

Trench coat ¥148,500 □Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 5th Floor, Men's Tailored Clothing *Scheduled to be available from September 16th (Wed) ES:S Trench Coat ¥148,500

ESS is a brand that takes classic European wear as its base and remakes it into clothing that suits modern styles, thanks to the design skills of Japanese pattern makers and domestic production. The classic long trench coat retains the basic structure of double-breasted clothing, large collars, and long length, but omits the shoulder epaulets. The body width is also made more relaxed, making it easy to layer not only with suits but also with knitwear and casual wear.

"We're not adding embellishments to make the trench coat look new. We've streamlined the details, reconstructed it into a more minimalist form, and used high-performance wool instead of traditional cotton gabardine to give it a modern look. We understand European style, but then make it easy to incorporate into today's fashion through Japanese pattern design and specifications. That's what's interesting about ES:S " (Inaba)

A soft set-up born from TOHNAI fabric making.

Tonay jacket ¥77,000, trousers ¥49,500 □ Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 5th Floor, Men's Tailored Clothing *Scheduled to be available from September 16th (Wed) TOHNAI jacket: 77,000 yen, Pants: 49,500 yen
□Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building, 5th Floor, Men's Tailored Clothing
*Scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 16th.
TOHNAI suit set uses an original 100% wool material woven in Japan. A modified herringbone pattern is arranged in stripes, and through fulling and washing processes, a soft, textured surface is brought out.
The fabric is thick and supple without being stiff, and the pants have a relaxed silhouette around the legs. This set-up is not too formal when worn together and is easy to pair with knits and t-shirts.

"Using a classic herringbone pattern, we've created a soft, three-dimensional fabric by weaving it loosely and then applying fulling and washing. The pants are also slightly wide, so the set doesn't look too stiff. The way we consider everything from material creation to silhouette as a continuous process is characteristic of Japanese brands," (Inaba)

From now on, choosing clothes will go beyond just appearances.

What emerges from these three themes is the importance of choosing clothes not just for their novelty or visual appeal, but also for the reasons why you want to add them to your wardrobe. This includes things like having many opportunities to wear them, retaining their value over time, and reflecting the designer's vision in the materials and tailoring. In today's changing world of prices and lifestyles, what we look for in a single garment is becoming more specific.

Located on the 5th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building offers a wide range of options that suit modern styles, while also focusing on classic tailoring. When the new Fall/Winter 2026 collection arrives in stores, why not take a look not only at the design, but also at the texture of the materials, the comfort of the garment, and the story behind its creation, and find a piece that you'll want to cherish for years to come?
