ISETAN MEN'S Buyer's blog

The "ISETAN MEN'S Buyer's blog," written by buyers at the Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , is a series that shares the behind-the-scenes story of how products are planned and displayed in stores, in the buyers' own words. It will provide insights into the manufacturing process, which is usually not visible to the public, through a blog format.

The sheer quantity of dough is overwhelming.

The moment I opened the factory door, the first thing that caught my eye was shelves of fabric lining an entire wall.

Rolls of fabric were piled up almost to the ceiling, and other shelves were packed full of folded fabric. I was honestly surprised to hear that this was only a small portion of what they had.

The president of AINEX Corporation accompanied me on this visit.
When selecting the fabric, we had numerous discussions with the president of AINEX and representatives from the local factory, Fermo Fossati, while looking at dozens of different fabrics.
Even within the category of navy fabric, there are many variations in pattern and weave, so I had them show me everything from scratch before finally narrowing down my choices.

When choosing fabrics, keep the customer's face in mind.

I originally came to the factory intending to choose a fresco weave fabric, but when I saw the actual fabrics on display, there were many other attractive materials such as satin and twill weaves, and I was wavering.
However, the final selection criteria are ultimately based on the preferences of the customers at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building .

It should blend naturally into the wardrobe of those who wear suits and have a refreshing feel suitable for spring and summer.
"I'm sure our customers will be delighted with this fabric"—with that thought in mind, I finally selected a fresco weave that had the perfect balance of transparency and luster.

The moment of selection

Choosing fabric isn't just about selecting colors and patterns.
I pick up the fabric in front of me, hold it up to the light, and imagine the shape of the knot, repeatedly asking myself, "Is this okay?"
The moment the president of Ainex recommended it, saying "This navy has a refreshing feel," and the factory staff also gave it their seal of approval, saying "This has the best balance," I was finally able to make my decision.

Attention to detail in ties

This tie was designed to be a staple in any man's wardrobe, and we paid meticulous attention to every detail, including the parts that aren't visible.

Once the tie fabric is decided, the interlining, blade width, and tie shape are determined accordingly. Specifically, for sheer fresco weaves, a black interlining that doesn't show the reverse side is used to tighten the overall look, and a blade width slightly wider than standard is set to balance with the jacket.

The design also features a semi-bottle shape, which is adjusted to prevent the knot from becoming excessively large when tied, even on fabrics with uneven surfaces.

These may seem like inconspicuous details at first glance, but they are crucial elements that directly affect the overall appearance and feel when you actually tie the knot, and we take responsibility for perfecting them until the product is complete.

Completion is scheduled for spring 2026.

We are currently producing samples, and the finished product is scheduled for the Spring/Summer 2026 season.
The samples have arrived, and after making adjustments to the width and other minor corrections, they are scheduled to be available in stores in mid-January.
We'll be receiving samples soon, and we'll share more details then, so please look forward to it.
