In March 2019, a Japanese shoe shiner who won the "World Championships in Shoe Shining 2019" held in London, England, and earned the title of "World's Best Shoe Shiner," will be appearing at Isetan Shinjuku!


The Shoe Shine Caravan project focuses on one highly skilled shoe shiner each month, both domestically and internationally. For its sixth installment, the focus is on Yuta Sugimura, owner and shoe shiner of Y's Shoeshine, a shoe shining specialty shop in Shizuoka. He will be showcasing his world-class skills for two days only, on Saturday, May 18th and Sunday, May 19th, at the Men's Shoes section on the first basement floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building .

Sugimura began shining shoes under the influence of his father, and since 2014 has run "Y's Shoeshine" in his hometown of Shizuoka. In January 2018, he won third place in the "Shoe Shining Championship 2018" held at Ginza Mitsukoshi, and as shown above, became the world champion. He became the second Japanese person to win the same competition, following Yuya Hasegawa, the representative of "Brift H," a pioneer in the shoe shining industry.
