(Right) Y&Sons yukata ¥52,920
Wear a yukata to festivals and BBQs! We recommend an active yukata style.
This year's Y&Sons pop-up store will also feature yukata made with sporty, functional materials. They pair well with summery accessories such as mesh hats and flip-flops.
"The appeal of Y&Sons lies in its ability to visualize how people who think traditional Japanese clothing is difficult can wear it in a unique way using their existing accessories, and in its recommendation of easy ways to wear it, such as using a heko obi (a type of sash), for those who find it troublesome to wear. Today, I've simply paired it with a silver bangle, a clutch, and a fan that I bought last year along with my yukata," says assistant buyer Ide.
The clutch bag, made of oil-infused "pull-up leather," is from LED Bites. While its design is simple, the bracelet, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship of artisans, adds a touch of sophisticated, mature allure.
LED Bites Bag ¥19,440
TIKASHI bracelets: Left: ¥37,800, Right: ¥32,400
"I already had a plain yukata, so I chose a playful one with patterns on both sides, a checkered pattern on the outside and a bamboo pattern on the inside. Since the pattern is quite bold, I kept the obi simple with brown. My approach to coordinating colors and patterns is exactly the same as with Western clothing," she explained.
"Furthermore, the best thing about Y&Sons is that, as a 'men's kimono tailor,' they tailor the garments to fit your body perfectly. Just like with suits, if the size is right, it looks and feels great when you wear it properly," he continued.
On July 1st (Sat), 2nd (Sun), 8th (Sat), and 9th (Sun), "ISETAN BON DANCE 2017," an ISETAN SHINJUKU-style adaptation of the Japanese cultural tradition of "summer festivals," will be held on the rooftop of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. Designer Keita Maruyama, the taiko drumming group "Kodo," and other renowned figures will be producing a special summer festival each night, so we encourage you to come dressed in a yukata.
