SHINOLA, which started in 2011 in Detroit, America's "automobile city," with the aim of establishing a new base for watchmaking in the United States, will open its first shop-in-shop in Japan on Wednesday, May 31st, on the 7th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , in the Authentic Casual section. The shop will offer classic American watches, leather goods, and journals. In commemoration of the shop's opening, a limited-time pop-up store will also be held on the 1st floor of the main building, at The Stage.

In the United States, Detroit is a center of manufacturing.

Shinola was founded in Detroit, USA in 2011. After several months of training for watchmaking personnel, they began manufacturing watch movements in 2012 and watches in 2013.

The company's president, Jacks Panice, says, "We often get asked, 'Why did you start in Detroit?' But the watch movement, which is the heart of a watch, is like the engine of a car. If you want to make an engine in the United States, which city other than Detroit would you go to?"

To coincide with the official launch, the product was unveiled on a certain day in April, with media representatives and executives from the Detroit headquarters in attendance.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, automobile manufacturing has been America's flagship industry, and Detroit has been the economic "engine" of the United States. The idea was that if watches could be made in Detroit, a city with a deep understanding of manufacturing and a history of making things for over 100 years, then anything could be made here. Detroit is now poised to rise again, along with the culture it has cultivated through its manufacturing industry.
