2020.03.30 update

This season's must-have bottoms are new denim and cargo pants.

These days, men's style is largely determined by trousers. Trends are shifting rapidly, from flat trousers to pleated ones, and from slim tapered to wide straight. So, what are the must-have trousers this season? Denim and cargo trousers. These two classic styles haven't been major trends for a while, but they seem poised to become truly popular this spring.

Italian trouser specialists like INCOTEX and the recently rebranded PT Torino are also focusing on denim, but ISETAN MEN'S is importing new denim brands: Atelier Taffery and AVN, both French denim brands.

Atelier Taffery is a brand that began in 1892 when 17-year-old Celestine Taffery created work clothes for railway construction workers. Because they used cotton fabric purchased in Nîmes, a town in southern France known as the birthplace of twill-woven cotton fabric, "denim," it is registered as the oldest denim brand in France. Even today, they have a small workshop in Florac, a town known as a summer resort in southern France, and continue to make denim in the same small-scale factory as they did back then, emphasizing the handiwork of skilled craftsmen.

AVN (ATELIER DE LA VENICE NORMANDE) practices French-made craftsmanship by using denim from the Italian company Candiani and revitalizing a factory with a 100-year history. The brand gained attention when two young French designers, Olivier and Arthur, revived the workwear factory, founded in 1921, through crowdfunding. It is also a unique brand that embraces the theme of "slow fashion," using yachts and electric trucks for product delivery in order to aim for a zero-carbon society.

Cargo pants are a model that even trouser factories like PT Torino and Berwich are paying attention to. Last season, wide-silhouette cargo pants were a hot topic, and this season the trend continues towards wide tapered styles. In addition, ISETAN MEN'S will be introducing exclusive models from popular brands.

Fortela is releasing a special edition exclusively for ISETAN MEN'S . This brand, directed by Alessandro Squarzi, known as a well-dressed man and a regular in Pitti Uomo street style photos, is based on his vintage wardrobe.

This time, the design is based on US Army cargo pants, modernized with a rugged, tightly twisted cotton material from the brand's archives. The color variations include military-inspired colors such as khaki, black, and beige. The brand logo incorporates Mr. Squarzi's signature, adding an exclusive touch. Like a true fashionista, it would look great mixed with a classic tailored jacket.
