Every day, the fashion of the era I'm interested in and my current feelings coexist and blend together.
Watching Mr. Shibata Yamashita from afar, I noticed that he really values classics in this day and age, and there's always one unexpected twist in his style that makes you go, "Huh?"
I was surprised when I saw you carrying a basket bag (*see previous Amvai article "The 'Bottega' of the Mountains - A Basket Bag That's Truly Attractive") , but what is the source of that idea and concept?
Yamashita: When you're doing this kind of work, conversations can expand from the fashion you're wearing or the things you own, and sometimes it can even lead to work opportunities.
So, I try to "express how I'm feeling at the moment through my appearance." I'm always conscious of how my attire can spark conversations, so sometimes when I'm walking around a city overseas, I get approached on the street by influential fashion industry figures saying, "Hey, come over here for a second!" Fashion is a kind of common language, so it's something I do consciously.
Shibata: So that's it! In other words, Yamashita's style of dress reflects his current feelings. And that's what makes world-class figures want to strike up a conversation with him!
Yamashita : Of course, I can express myself through magazines, but there are some things that can't be expressed through magazines alone, so I want to express myself through my appearance as well. That's also the case with my Instagram (@eisuke_yamashita) . I want to convey something that is "interesting right now."
Shibata, how do you feel right now? Do you change your outfit every day?
Yamashita: That's right, things are changing a lot every day lately. The eras that I'm currently interested in are late 80s Armani, and styles that blend elements of both the late 70s and early 80s. There are days when I wear head to toe Armani, and other days like today when I think double-bridge glasses and linen pants that are "just a little flared" would be nice. I also recently bought a Hunting World bag, so my feelings and fashion from the 30s, 70s, and 90s that I'm interested in coexist and blend together.
The continuation of this interview will be in the second part, "Why Late 80s Armani Style Resonates Now," scheduled to be updated on Thursday, July 25th.
Please look forward to it!

■Amver Fashion Director Eisuke Yamashita (@eisuke_yamashita)
Born in Saitama Prefecture in 1976. After graduating from university and working for several publishing companies, I have been working as a freelance fashion editor since 2008. My main work involves editing catalogs and writing articles, primarily for "MEN'S Precious (Shogakukan) / https://precious.jp/list/mensprecious/ ", in which I have been involved since its inception as a fashion director. I live in a 50-year-old apartment building, and my usual haunts are Jimbocho, Asakusa, and Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi. I love old things, and in fashion, I'm drawn to bespoke tailoring, traditional, mode, American casual... I have a bad habit of jumping at anything that has a classic cultural background. To further enhance my hobby of strolling around town, I recently acquired a Leica M and am engrossed in taking photographs while traveling. My dream is to share the little-known masterpieces and fashion culture that still remain in the world.
