I want to try out various fabric (cover) colors and patterns.
There are several factors that determine the impression of a long umbrella, but let's start by focusing on the color and pattern of the fabric (cover). The most formal and versatile option is " plain black ," which is something you should definitely have in your collection. Plain navy or gray umbrellas are also ideal for business settings, so think of them in the same way you would choose the color of your suit .
On the other hand, patterned jeans, such as checks, or solid colors like green or beige, give a more casual impression. These are better suited for jacket and trousers outfits or for weekends, as they offer a change of pace. In other words, having multiple pairs in different colors and patterns, rather than just one, allows you to adapt to various occasions. A man who can do this surely understands the refined taste of a gentleman!
Incidentally, color and pattern are said to be a point where men and women differ significantly when choosing an umbrella. Men tend to choose only dark tones, while women tend to choose lighter colors that flatter their complexion. Be sure to take note of the so-called "reflector effect" through color coordination.

A wide variety of handle materials
The handle is another part that greatly influences the overall impression of an umbrella. While wood is the most common material, even within wood, there are various types.
Malacca wood offers a delightful, almost sticky feel; hickory and oak have a calm texture; maple is highly workable; ash is resilient and often utilizes its bark; and wanghee (Chinese bamboo) boasts excellent grip thanks to its knots. Pay attention to the differences in feel and how they change over time.
On the other hand, since umbrellas were also used as walking sticks in the past, some have handles made of metal such as silver, giving them a very noble impression. In particular, those from Malacca, where only the tip of the handle is covered with a small pure silver socket, are called the "Prince of Wales style" and are said to be highly popular among umbrella enthusiasts due to their striking presence.
For those who prefer a softer feel, leather-wrapped options are also available. These come in a variety of colors and materials, and with proper care, you can enjoy the aging process just like with shoes.
