Following various initiatives to commemorate its 15th anniversary in 2018, Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building Men's Building, has entered a new phase for Spring/Summer 2019, aiming to become a truly unique and overwhelming presence, "PEERLESS STORE." On the 7th floor, in the Authentic Wear section, the vintage clothing that was introduced last year has been a great success. A "Reproduction Project" in collaboration with a variety of talented designers is also starting.

In an effort to explore the cutting edge of ever-evolving "authentic" fashion, the 7th floor, Authentic Wear, has undergone a bold transformation. Since last autumn, they have also begun handling vintage clothing from an upcycling and sustainability perspective, receiving a great response.

This action of upcycling, which is mindful of sustainable fashion, is also actively practiced by Levi's®, a leading company in denim wear. The brand itself collects vintage items from the 1980s and 90s, cleans and repairs them, and resells them as "Levi's® Authorized Vintage," which is already available at three of its directly managed stores in Japan and at Isetan Men's.

Using "Levi's® Authorized Vintage" as the material, Isetan Men's is launching a special project called the "Reproduction Project," in which talented designers with a deep understanding of "America" will "recreate" these pieces. Daiki Suzuki of Engineered Garments proposes an aviator jacket, while Hirofumi Yamashita of Mojito proposes a collarless jacket. Both are on-trend items and masterpieces that will match your spring/summer wardrobe.

The bottoms were designed by Manabu Kobayashi, who heads brands such as Slowgun and AUBERGE . Based on the 501®, the model on the left in the photo is a wide tapered style that combines different materials for the front and back, making it a perfect match for tailored jackets. It can be styled in a variety of ways to suit your age and style.

The two pairs on the right were customized under the theme of "city." The pair in the center of the photo is inspired by "London," expressing a punk spirit with distressed knees and an animal print lining. It is also sized to fit women. The pair on the far right is inspired by a "Paris" apartment. It features a chic and sophisticated look with a floral lining reminiscent of wallpaper. Both pairs have vintage tassel decorations at the waist. The idea of repurposing 100-year-old curtain tassels into accessories is typical of Mr. Kobayashi, who loves antiques.



What was once merely a "solution" for adjusting sizes has now evolved into a means of "expressing" artistry and individuality in fashion. We look forward to seeing how this sophisticated and innovative approach, which is both sustainable and fashionable, continues to develop.
