Masunaga Optical, a long-established company that has led Japan's eyewear industry since its founding in 1905 by Gozaemon Masunaga to realize his dream of building a local industry in Fukui, has collaborated with Kenzo Takada, the founder of KENZO and one of the pioneers of Japanese fashion, as its director. Starting with the first collection released in Autumn/Winter 2014, the designs are handled by the design team of 'Kenzo Takada' based in France, and the manufacturing is carried out by Masunaga Optical in Japan.
The "METEOR" (70,200 yen) is a stylish teardrop-shaped pair of sunglasses featuring an excellent combination frame made of plastic and titanium.
This collection proposes a new style that fuses vintage frame motifs with modern design, and the delicate carvings on the bridge and temples, reminiscent of 1920s jewelry, are particularly striking. The rims also feature a design incorporating MASUNAGA GMS' iconic "One Star" and Kenzo Takada's family crest, the "Kikyo" (bellflower)."SIRIUS" 70,200 yen
Inspired by industrial goggles from the 19th and early 20th centuries, these glasses feature an appealing design that combines plastic and titanium. The plastic front has a three-dimensional, hood-like structure, creating a futuristic image. Furthermore, the titanium top bar and the area from the endpiece to the temples are adorned with engraved-style arabesque patterns, adding elegance to the otherwise inorganic industrial design.
"ALCOR" ¥64,800 "ALCOR" is a Wellington-type combination frame. The front has a slightly voluminous size and a classic design, resulting in sophisticated eyewear for adults.
