[Series] Beginner Golf Navigation - The Road to Your First Round #Round2 | Asking the Instructor Simple Questions(1/4)

Ota, the Authentic Casual Sales Manager on the 7th floor of the Isetan Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , took a trial lesson at "Swing," a golf school located on the rooftop, alongside the school's members. After completing the 60-minute trial lesson, which started with no prior experience, we asked Toshiaki Kawakami and Hiroko Nakagawa of Swing about their impressions.

Starting lessons at a school is a shortcut to becoming proficient.

---When I decided to start playing golf, I searched for "Shinjuku golf school," but how many schools are there in Shinjuku right now?

There are roughly 6 to 7 golf schools in Shinjuku, including both the east and west exits. They can be broadly divided into "outdoor" schools like Swing and "indoor" schools that offer small group individual lessons using simulators. Swing, located on the rooftop Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , has 8 large hitting bays, allowing you to focus on swinging without worrying about ball flight or distance, thus enabling you to develop a solid swing.

---What does it mean to "not worry about the ball flight or distance"?

While driving ranges are spacious and enjoyable, it's inevitable that you'll be concerned about where the ball goes, its trajectory, and distance. Outdoor driving ranges, on the other hand, don't show the ball's trajectory, allowing you to concentrate on your swing. The biggest advantage is that it's easier to develop good form before bad habits set in. Many people frequent outdoor ranges to correct their bad habits.

I see... Now I understand why it's better to start at a school.

*On one weekday afternoon at 7 PM, about seven people participated in the lesson, both male and female. Their individual skill levels varied, but they were all diligently practicing.

A school that focuses on community and improvement

—Are there many male beginners as well?

In recent years, we've seen an increase in memberships from people like Mr. Ota, in their mid-to-late 30s, who are starting to have business relationships, and from men in their late 20s who have settled into their jobs and want to try their hand at golf.
Furthermore, since it's now commonplace for tournament pros to have training coaches, everyone is not embarrassed to learn from others; they simply consider it normal.

—I got the impression that there were many female students in the swing class, and that they all got along well.

During weekday afternoons, we have many housewives in their 40s to 60s, and after 6 PM on weekdays, we have many women in their 40s to 50s who have finished work. On weekends, it's about half men and half women. Our school's policy is to "learn while having fun and improving through community," so many people become friends through their swings and go out on the course together.
.

Could you tell me about the curriculum for the next lesson?
