Ishikawa Brush | Care of Wool Products(1/3)

We often send our wool items to the dry cleaners at the end of the season without giving it much thought. By taking care of them with regular brushing, we can preserve the original texture of the material and enjoy our favorite clothes and their feel for a long time.

Ishikawa primarily makes clothing brushes using horse tail hair. Tail hair refers to the downy hairs that grow in the center of a horse's tail. It is a high-quality material used for brushes and other items because of its softness and resilience.

"If the bristles are too soft, they won't remove dust, but if they're too stiff, they'll damage the fabric of your clothes," said Kazuo Ishikawa, uttering seemingly contradictory words. To resolve this contradiction, he decided to create a clothes brush, taking inspiration from calligraphy brushes.

By using bristles from the tail area of a horse, they have created a brush that is soft to the touch yet firm. "By reducing dry cleaning and using a brush, you can enjoy the texture of your clothes for a longer time," says Ishikawa.

Dry cleaning removes a wide variety of stains, exposing delicate clothing to strong solvents, which can strip away the natural oils from animal hair.

"Brushing gently is a mistake. The key is to apply the brush firmly so that it reaches deep into the fabric," says Ishikawa. "When you go out, brush from top to bottom."

"We recommend that you understand the properties of the material well, and if food spills occur, wipe them off immediately with a damp towel or wet wipe. At the end of the season, wipe down areas that come into direct contact with the skin, such as the collar and cuffs, with a damp cloth, brush it, and let it air out."
