According to designer Costas Metaxas, the clock mechanism at the center of the skull represents the brain itself, which governs our destiny and is encased in the skull. These also symbolize the close connection between life and the flow of time. The eyes represent us, observing the passage of time, and we are drawn into the eye sockets by the passage of time. Transparent discs placed in the right and left eyes display the hours and minutes, respectively.
