Things that need to be communicated, and things that can change.
CHALIE's travel trunk is apparently full of spring-colored items. She's surely feeling refreshed as she sets off for a new place. The spring weather in Japan is so pleasant, it looks like CHALIE might be staying for a long time again!
Currently, THE GALLERY by CHALIE VICE is showcasing traditional crafts from Ishikawa Prefecture, created by Nicolai Bergmann, a flower artist and longtime friend of CHALIE, in the exhibition "Kinjo Tenka Chalie Vice meets Nicolai Bergmann's Works" .
Kanazawa gold leaf, which produces breathtakingly beautiful gold lacquerware, is said to be only 1/10,000th of a millimeter thick. This glass vase features a gradation of gold leaf against "adult pink" and "pale lavender," colors inspired by hydrangeas as envisioned by Nicolai Bergmann. The elegant and gorgeous vase, with its "adult pink" gradation, is a design that also suits Western-style rooms.

Nicolai Bergmann was captivated at first sight by the luster, jet black color, and warm feel of the wood in the lacquerware known as "JAPAN" in Europe. Wajima lacquerware, with its deep jet black luster achieved only through multiple layers of lacquer, has been transformed into a sophisticated and refined piece by applying black lacquer over a hemp cloth base. These pieces are the finest hospitality vessels ever created. They are sophisticated, new, and captivating, as if they were made with CHALIE in mind.

The vibrant Kutani ware, with its five-color design, has its roots in the mid-17th century. This cup and saucer set is based on the refined aesthetic of Kutani ware, and features a design inspired by hydrangeas by Nicolai Bergmann, allowing you to enjoy traditional culture in a more accessible way.

"I've learned so many things from Nikolai. For example, the power of flowers. When a woman holds them, she becomes even more attractive; when given to someone embarking on a journey, they give them the courage to go to a new land; when given to someone suffering from illness, they become a source of encouragement; and when held up for someone who has passed away, they bring back unforgettable memories."
This time, we're showcasing a number of his designs that are both innovative and uphold tradition. I can see that they embody Nikolai's desire to skillfully harmonize the Japanese traditions that should be preserved with the ever-changing lifestyles of the Japanese people.
One of Japan's strengths is that it has skills and craftsmen that it can always be proud of in front of other countries. Conversely, one of its weaknesses is that it's in danger of forgetting those strengths. Nikolai is a designer who reminds us of this, and he's a fellow Japan lover like me. So I would be happy if my friends could also share in the appreciation for these strengths.
