Statement
The 20th century was an era in which design made great strides, fundamentally changing people's lives and values. This exhibition focuses on the "chair," which can be considered a symbol of that era, and unravels the changes in thought, technology, and aesthetics from one period to the next.
Chairs are more than just furniture; they reflect the evolution of modern design. Aesthetic trends of each era are reflected in their form and decoration, while advancements in new materials and production techniques have enabled new structures and expressions. Furthermore, changes in work styles and lifestyles have influenced the role and use of chairs. Thus, chairs embody a diverse range of elements—beauty, technology, and society—and by tracing their evolution, we can decipher the history of modern design.
This exhibition showcases a collection of masterpieces born from the intersection of materials, structure, ergonomics, and cultural background, ranging from the functionalism of modernism in the 1930s to the experimental expressions of postmodernism in the 1980s. Each chair transcends mere furniture, embodying the spirit of its time and the philosophy of its designer.
This exhibition offers a glimpse into the history of 20th-century design. Immerse yourself in a rich world of design and find your own special chair.
