SAINT LAURENT presented its 2026 men's summer collection, designed by Anthony Vaccarello, at the Bourse de Commerce, a contemporary art museum in Paris.
Creative director Anthony Vaccarello envisioned a world where escapism and elegance blend together, situated between Paris and Fire Island. The collection pays homage to artists like Stanton, Angus, and Ellis, who gave expression to bygone eras and hidden emotions.
Furthermore, the collection incorporates a tribute to Yves Saint Laurent himself, who chose a new creative path in 1974. It recaptures the atmosphere of that era, "a time when desire became style and beauty was a shield to protect against emptiness," and revives a delicate sensuality for the modern age.
This collection explores the beauty found in that fleeting moment when one reveals oneself while subtly concealing it. In keeping with the philosophy that "ambiguity is elegance," the lighting chosen is not glitzy, but rather the natural light of a bright afternoon.
The show venue featured "clinamen," an installation by Céleste Boursier-Mougenot, in which porcelain bowls floated in a circular basin of water, leaving random trails on the surface. In response to this quiet, natural rhythm, the collection unfolded with sculptural forms devoid of exaggeration.
The silhouettes are not clinging to the body, but rather light and airy, as if floating in mid-air. The waist is cinched, the shoulders are broad, and materials such as silk and nylon naturally envelop the body. The color palette is centered on understated tones such as sand, salt, pale ochre, dry moss, and pool blue. Each piece does not make an excessive statement, but rather exudes a serene beauty that simply exists.
The shorts are reminiscent of those worn by a young Yves, but they're not just a reference; it feels as if those memories have naturally returned this season.
More than half a century has passed since 1974, when Yves Saint Laurent stepped back from the spotlight. Even in 2026, SAINT LAURENT continues to carry on its aesthetic sensibilities and quietly moves forward into the future.
