2023.12.28 update

TRADMAN'S BONSAI, which aims to spread bonsai to the world, will be exhibiting and selling special, one-of-a-kind bonsai at three locations within the men's department store.

The cubic exhibition space SI (Store Identity), located on three floors of Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , is hosting a special exhibition of unique, one-of-a-kind bonsai trees by Tradman's Bonsai, showcasing a world of bonsai that transcends conventional notions while preserving tradition. The exhibition runs until January 3rd, 2024 (Wednesday).

Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 1st Floor, Main Entrance

Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii)
Estimated age: 300 years
5,500,000 yen

The most representative tree species in bonsai. Compared to the Japanese white pine (Pinus parviflora), the Japanese black pine is characterized by its long, rigid needles, with two needles growing from each bud. Because the needles are hard and the trunk has a rough texture, it is considered a masculine bonsai and is also known as "Otokomatsu" (male pine) or "Omatsu" (male pine).

Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 4th Floor, Men's Luxury

Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii)
Estimated age: 100 years
1,650,000 yen

The most representative tree species in bonsai. Compared to the Japanese white pine (Pinus parviflora), the Japanese black pine is characterized by its longer, stiffer needles, with two needles growing from each bud. Because of its hard needles and rough bark, it is considered a masculine bonsai and is also known as "Otokomatsu" (male pine) or "Omatsu" (male pine).

Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 6th Floor, Men's Contemporary

Japanese red pine (Akamatsu)
Estimated age: 100 years
1,320,000 yen

Unlike the rigid needles of the Japanese black pine, the needles of the Japanese red pine are soft and flexible, and two needles grow from each bud. Because many bonsai of this species have a graceful, feminine shape compared to the Japanese black pine, it is also known as "female pine" or "female pine."
