We select the finest materials from around the world and present a world of modern, traditional leather goods and bags created by Japanese craftsmanship. Enjoy the changes in appearance that occur slowly and over time. This is the result of the ingenuity and daily practice of skilled craftsmen. Individual differences in color and texture, variations that occur in the leather-making process, the skills of each craftsman, and the environment at the time—these small differences accumulate to create the unique character of each product.
Please take this opportunity to visit the leather goods section on the 1st floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building .
HERBIE leather is a full-vegetable tanned leather from Sanyo Co., Ltd., a historic tannery founded in 1911. After the Russo-Japanese War, the company produced leather shoes and belts for military use, and its quality is well-established. Using tannins extracted from North American mimosa, the leather is slowly tanned in pits, resulting in a leather that is firm, lightweight, and durable. A wax finish is applied, giving it a matte, uneven appearance that exudes a natural, rugged look. With continued use, it develops a beautiful sheen and shows remarkable signs of aging.
The exterior is made from cordovan leather from Horween Leather Company (Illinois, USA), a traditional and world-renowned tannery with over 100 years of history. The leather's texture is preserved with an extremely natural finish, and the meticulous oiling process results in a leather that is firm yet flexible and supple, developing a rich patina with use.
The interior uses full-vegetable tanned leather from a tannery in Tuscany, Italy. It has a matte appearance, but the more you use it, the more it will develop a beautiful sheen and a richer color through friction.
This full-vegetable tanned leather is produced in a tannery in Tuscany, Italy. It uses carefully selected cowhide from the belly area of European cows, and the surface is silver-rubbed. While it has a matte appearance, it will become more lustrous and richer in color with use due to friction. Designed to hold folded banknotes, its accordion-style gusset allows for ample card storage, making it surprisingly practical despite its simple form.
