"How to Mix and Match Gray Suits": The same suit can create a completely different impression depending on the combination of V-zone elements!
"The Art of the V-Zone" is a corner where stylists from Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building present V-zone coordination based on the latest trends.
In this series, stylists from Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , will introduce a wide range of V-zone styles, from the classic shirt and tie style for business settings to more casual and trendy V-zone looks.
When you wear a suit, you probably tend to stick to the same shirt and tie combinations. While familiar combinations offer a sense of security, they can make you appear monotonous to others, and you yourself may lose interest in your attire, leading to your suit style becoming a uniform before you know it.
Therefore, to avoid the uniformity of suit styles, a simple technique I recommend is to consciously change the combination of shirt and tie, even when wearing the same suit. By significantly changing the impression of the V-zone, you can spend the day feeling refreshed, and it's sure to improve the impression you make on those around you.
This time, we'll use a dark gray plain suit, a staple of business attire that you probably already own at least one of, as an example to introduce three different ways to coordinate the V-zone.
1. A monochrome, stoic impression.
A white shirt paired with a black tie creates a serious and smart impression.
Emmanuel Berg shirt ¥17,600
Drake's necktie: 24,200 yen
MUNGAI Chief ¥7,700 Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 1F Dress Shirts & Ties
Emmanuel Berg's semi-wide collar shirt has a very neat collar shape, which creates a very clean and elegant neckline when worn with a tie. A black silk solid tie would look too formal, so I paired it with Drake's classic grenadine tie to add texture, resulting in a stylish outfit that doesn't feel out of place in a business setting.
2. Use blue tones to create a refreshing impression.
A light blue shirt paired with a navy tie with a motif creates a clean, youthful image.
Fratelli Luigi tie: 15,400 yen
Roi de Lac Chief 11,000 yen

BARBA shirt features a stylish horizontal collar. Its fitted silhouette allows for a smart look even without a jacket. The tie, a playful geometric pattern from Fratelli Luigi, adds a touch of sophisticated ease.
3. Showcase your high fashion sense and create a unique impression.
A classic look with a wide-striped gray shirt and an impactful printed tie.
Paul Stuart tie ¥16,500 View product
Franco Bassi Chief 7,700 yen
Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 1st Floor: Dress Shirts & Ties
This long-point striped shirt features a tie from the "Collection Line" designed by Yasuhito Kamoshida, who became the men's director of Paul Stuart in Japan in 2019. Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , has started carrying this line permanently this autumn/winter season. The light gray with sharply defined stripes gives it a very classic feel. Furthermore, pairing it with the brand's distinctive gray tie featuring a dynamic bird motif creates a cohesive yet individualistic look. This V-zone clearly shows that the wearer is fully enjoying fashion, even in a suit style.
What did you think?
Even when using the same suit, I think the impression changes significantly depending on the V-zone.
Trying out new outfit combinations can reveal different sides to the same items, potentially making your existing suit an even more favorite piece.
