2021.10.06 update

A limited-time pop-up shop featuring warm, hand-knitted items from Kesennuma Knitting, where you can see the faces of the knitters, will be held at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store.

From Wednesday, October 6th to Tuesday, October 19th, the dress shirts and ties section on the 2nd floor of the main building of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store will be hosting a limited-time pop-up shop for Kesennuma Knitting, a hand-knitting company based in Kesennuma.
During the event, ready-made models such as "etude" and scarves, made using techniques from Guernsey sweaters, will be available. In addition, a semi-custom order event for "Me" will be held, where you can choose your perfect size and preferred material and color.

What is Kesennuma Knitting?

The project was born as a disaster relief initiative following the Great East Japan Earthquake, with the aim of "creating work that everyone can do with a sense of pride and enjoyment." The product designs are handled by knitwear designer Mariko Mikuni.

Each sweater from Kesennuma Knitting is carefully knitted stitch by stitch, with the knitter checking the fabric with their hands and eyes, with the hope that "whenever you wear this sweater, you will always feel happy," and imagining that it will become a favorite piece for the wearer, one that they will be wrapped in for decades.

The knitters' thoughtful intentions are evident in every detail: "So that the yarn can hold plenty of air and become warm, so that the fabric feels comfortable, so that the shoulders can move easily..." These gentle feelings from each individual are also conveyed through the illustration of the knitter on the attached tag.

The clothes we wear every day.
Even if you know the designer, it's rare to come across something where you can also see the face of the person who made it.
Seeing the knitter will allow you to experience a warmth you've never felt before when you wear the sweater.

Our recommended model this time is the "Me2." Made from 100% cashmere, it features beautiful colors and a texture you'll want to keep touching.

Kesennuma Knitting also offers maintenance services to ensure your sweaters can be worn for a long time. They can provide necessary maintenance according to the condition of your sweater, such as when the yarn is about to break, pilling has occurred, or it is stretching out.
*Maintenance service fee: 1000 yen (flat rate). Shipping and cash-on-delivery fees are the customer's responsibility. Please contact our staff for details.

As we head into the heart of winter, why not have a warm, handcrafted garment made that reflects the personality of the knitter?
