SANYO YAMACHO is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. To commemorate this anniversary year, a new model using the "R202" last, which can be considered the brand's origin, will be sold at the ISETAN Shoe Fair. However, this commemorative model is not merely a return to its roots, but aims to be a timeless classic for the modern era, says Shinpei Saruwatari, the person in charge at SANYO YAMACHO .



"I feel like wearing a tie is no longer a necessity even in business settings. Last fall, I often wore jackets without ties. I thought the volume of the R202 was a good match for that look."


The style that Saruwatari chose is a derby with a country feel, featuring a rubber sole and storm welt. Furthermore, he modified the pattern of the wingtip, used thicker stitching thread, and made the perforations on the toe cap larger, creating a moderate sense of volume overall. For the upper, he chose Horween's "Chromexcel" leather, which has a rugged feel.




"The texture of this leather goes well with the rubber sole. Also, it's soft, so it's very comfortable to wear," says Saruwatari. It's a pair of shoes that makes you want to wear them right now.
