Fukui Umbrella, a factory brand that respects the tradition of textile technology in Fukui Prefecture and creates umbrellas that will be passed down through generations, will be holding a pop-up event at the event space on the 2nd floor of the main building of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store from September 15th (Wed) to September 21st (Tue). The event will feature a wide selection of the brand's popular items, including "Janome Umbrella" and "Nurenza." During the event, customers can also order custom-made umbrellas, choosing their own fabric and designs.




Fukui Umbrella is a factory brand founded in Fukui Prefecture in 1972. Fukui Prefecture was one of the first regions to start producing umbrella fabric using synthetic fibers, and umbrella making was one of the thriving home-based jobs during the snowy off-season for farmers. The brand aims to provide a space where people can enjoy rainy days with all their senses, and while utilizing the traditional Janome umbrella design, they also create modern and highly stylish umbrellas.

This pop-up store offers a wide selection of umbrellas, including the "Janome Western-style umbrella," a modern twist on the traditional Janome umbrella, and the "Nurenza," a highly water-repellent umbrella developed in collaboration with a manufacturer. We also accept custom umbrella orders. You can create a one-of-a-kind umbrella tailored to your preferences, choosing from fabric, frame, handle, and even adding your name or artwork.

Janome Umbrella (Long Rain Umbrella) - A modern adaptation of the traditional Janome umbrella.

While using polyester, this product utilizes Fukui Prefecture's textile technology to weave a texture similar to Tsumugi silk. The frame incorporates Fukui Prefecture's eyeglass frame technology, using 24 ribs, and combines ease of use and durability with the reliable technology of Fukui Prefecture's industries. The gently curved finish allows you to enjoy the exceptional sound of rain.
Furthermore, it has a two-stage opening mechanism; lowering the opening angle by one stage creates the distinctive silhouette of a traditional Japanese umbrella, making it suitable for both Japanese and Western clothing.
The handle and tip (the top part of the umbrella) are finished one by one by hand with genuine Kawada lacquer by craftsmen in Kawada Town, Fukui Prefecture, making them resistant to water and heat, and developing a beautiful sheen with each use, allowing you to enjoy them for a long time.

Nurenza (Long umbrella for rain) - Solves the problem of "water droplets bothering you inside the car."

Based on the problem of clothes and shoes getting wet from umbrella droplets on trains and other vehicles when it rains, Nurenza was developed in collaboration with a manufacturer using a high-density polyester material and was commercialized after a year of work. Its water-repellent properties, which repel water droplets even when exposed to rain, were born from the reverse idea of using a water-repellent fabric rather than a coating, and after much trial and error, it was achieved that it dries almost completely with just one shake. Another attractive feature is that the center of gravity is adjusted to be directly below when the umbrella is opened, making it feel lighter.

During the event, we will be taking orders for custom-made umbrellas tailored to each customer's needs, allowing you to specify the size, number of ribs, fabric, handle, and other details to suit your height and intended use. You can choose from a wide variety of options, including all-weather umbrellas made with Tsumugi silk, such as authentic Amami Oshima Tsumugi, frames made of carbon fiber using golf club shaft technology, and handles with Wajima lacquerware and high-relief maki-e (gold lacquer) finishes.

  1. Fabric: Please choose your desired fabric from the fabric samples. You can also combine fabrics of different colors.
  
  2. Frame Frame: For long umbrellas, you can choose between "steel alloy" which gives the umbrella a nice rounded shape, and "carbon fiber" which is light and durable.
  Folding umbrellas... You can choose from "special nylon resin" or "fiberglass".
  
  Shaft (center pole): For long umbrellas… You can choose from "aluminum alloy," "oak," or "carbon fiber."
  Additionally, you can attach a cover to the flicking part to prevent your fingers from getting pinched.
  Folding umbrella… You can choose "aluminum alloy".
  
  Size: Long umbrella... Rib length can be adjusted from 35cm to 70cm (in 5cm increments).
