Genderless, seasonless... In an era where all boundaries are being removed, TOMORROWLAND proposes four mixed styles centered on color, taste, material, and pattern for Summer 2021. "There are no rules or taboos in fashion. Let's enjoy fashion more powerfully," seems to be the message conveyed through the styling. We asked three PR representatives from TOMORROWLAND —Maki Kanetake, Keiichiro Kawabe, and Hayate Kuronuma—to explain each style and share tips on how to incorporate them into everyday outfits. In addition, Yuta Hashi, Assistant Merchandiser at Mitsukoshi Isetan (responsible for women's wear), and Nozomu Kumagai, Assistant Supervisor (responsible for men's wear), also provide explanations based on customer feedback and trends at the Shinjuku store they oversee.

Part 1: [Color Mix Style] Express yourself fully with color.

At Kintake , we've noticed that more and more customers are incorporating colorful items into their wardrobes without hesitation. After all, everyone wants to wear things that make them look beautiful and lift their spirits.
Kawabe : I created this styling with the hope of encouraging that "joy of color." Both the men's and women's knit vests are the same size but in different colors. CABaN has many unisex items and a wide range of colors and sizes. I think this is a suggestion that only TOMORROWLAND , which has a wide selection of colorful items, can make.

Many people use gold and bamboo -colored items as an accent in their outfits, but this time I tried going a step further and using three colors. To prevent the colors from clashing, I kept the red and pink of the top in warm tones and added light blue in the bottoms as an accent color. The striped shirt and white shoes in between give the whole look a soft feel.

Kawabe 's men's outfit is coordinated with three colors: blue, purple, and green. The trick to incorporating color items is to choose items with similar hues and tones. It's a recommended item that will broaden your styling options.

Mitsukoshi Isetan Assistant Merchandiser, Hajime: I think many people have had fewer opportunities to go out due to changes in their lifestyle since last year, but we often hear from the stores that "colorful items are popular." Many customers come into the store after seeing the wide variety of colors on display. We are developing clothing that is uplifting and allows you to express your individuality through color while updating the designs to match the times, so there is also the fun of selecting a color that suits your "own style."

Part 2: [Taste Mix Style] A world that expands by transcending the boundaries of tastes.

Kanetake: This time, we're styling the same work jacket for both men and women. TOMORROWLAND is a brand that has two distinct styles for men: dressy/casual and casual/elegant for women. So, the idea of mixing styles and enjoying fashion is at the heart of the brand. With this styling, I hope to convey the excitement of how even casual men's items can give such different impressions depending on how you style them!
Many of our female staff members wear men 's items when they're working in the store. We're also seeing an increase in women buying men's clothing in our stores.

I focused on how to express "femininity" with this oversized work jacket. When incorporating men's items, it's attractive to choose items that are the opposite style and strongly express femininity. I emphasized feminine lines and delicate features with silver strappy pumps and curved earrings.

Kuronuma: Since last year, I've really noticed an increase in people mixing styles without a clear distinction between on-duty and off-duty looks. For men, I've suggested a styling that deliberately dresses down khaki slacks, which are typically worn in on-duty styles, by pairing them with a work jacket. When wearing slacks, I recommend tucking in your shirt. This emphasizes your waist and easily creates a more flattering silhouette. Furthermore, choosing a top with volume will make your lower body appear even slimmer.

Kumagai, Assistant Supervisor at Mitsukoshi Isetan: Fashion is becoming increasingly diverse, with unisex items and styles becoming standard. Lightweight jackets like the ones used for men's and women's wear this time are very useful during transitional seasons or when there are drastic temperature changes. If you can share one item with your partner, it will greatly expand your range of outfits.

Part 3: [Material Mix Style] Fascinated by diverse materials regardless of the season

Kawabe: For the past few years, we've seen a trend of mixing seasonal elements, such as selling leather items in spring and summer and linen items in autumn and winter. Fashion doesn't have strict rules about which materials belong in which seasons. If we can enjoy a variety of different materials flexibly, everyday life will surely become much more enjoyable.
Combining different materials like gold and bamboo instantly elevates even the simplest outfit, creating a stylish impression. It might seem difficult, but the key is to match the color tones. The differences in texture between the materials stand out, making this a surprisingly easy mixed style to try, even for those who feel intimidated by fashion. Please try combining different materials, even if it's just one item.

Kanetake: This time, I'm challenging myself to mix five different materials, including the shoes. For the top, from bottom to top, I've layered a linen long-sleeved shirt, a long sheer knit, an open-collar knit made of the same material as the long knit, and a silk scarf. The trick to layering many different materials without it looking mismatched is to match the color tones as mentioned above and choose items with a sheer quality. Layering linen over a sheer knit creates a different texture. I also added a glossy silk scarf to complete the look, adding an elegant touch that's typical of TOMORROWLAND .

At first glance , Kuronuma's outfit looks like a typical jacket and pants combination, but in fact, the men's outfit also mixes five different materials. The top is a cotton shirt, a linen-rayon jacket, and a silk scarf, while the pants are cotton-rayon with linen only at the waist. Suede Gurkha sandals add a touch of casualness to the look. Similar to the women's outfit, the color tones are coordinated, creating a gradient from khaki to beige. With more and more people going without ties, scarves are a highly recommended item as a new way to accentuate the neckline.

Kanetake: "I often hear people say, 'I'd like to try mixing patterns, but I don't have the courage...' But there's absolutely nothing wrong with combining this pattern with that pattern. So, I made this suggestion with the hope that you'll try it without any preconceived notions. The TOMORROWLAND staff actively enjoy mixing patterns in a very bold way, so when you come to Isetan, be sure to check out the staff'sコーディネート (outfits) as well."
The key to a riverside outfit is, again, to avoid using too many colors.

This outfit mixes four patterns: a gold bamboo inner layer, an all-in-one, a blouse, and a scarf. The key to bringing these patterns together is the use of white. If each pattern has the same base color, it surprisingly creates a unified look. Showing some bare skin at the neck and ankles is also an important point to create visual openness.
