This week, we'll be introducing Laphroaig 25 Year Old from our Selection Bolt.


The Laphroaig distillery on Islay means "beautiful hollow beside a wide bay" in Gaelic.
It is also known as the whisky favored by Prince Charles and was the first single malt whisky to receive the "Royal Warrant" designation.


Shimaji : "Today, I'd like to introduce Laphroaig from Islay. It's characterized by its distinctive, peaty flavor, and it's a refreshing distillery that clearly says 'love or hate.' At Salon de Shimaji, we have the 2017 release of Laphroaig 25 Year Old. After 25 years of aging, the peaty character has mellowed nicely, and a sweetness has emerged. It's interesting to compare it with the standard 10 Year Old to notice the difference."


We've offered two previous releases, one in 2015 and the other in 2016, but these two offer a completely different flavor. Please give them a try!

Shimaji : "Even within the same distillery, the taste can differ depending on the year and the cask. Comparing them side-by-side and discovering the differences is truly a case of 'the sadness of knowing.'"

Katsuhiko Shimaji is the producer of the Isetan Men's Residence Salon de Shimaji, located on the 8th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building . Born in 1941, he graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University and joined Shueisha. He was assigned to "Weekly Playboy" and became its editor-in-chief in 1983, where he created a sensation with the "Life Advice" column featuring Renzo Shibata, Toko Kon, and Ken Kaiko as respondents, growing the magazine into a million-copy publication. He later served as editor-in-chief of "PLAYBOY Japan" and "BART." After serving as the representative director of Shueisha International, he retired in 2008. He is currently a writer and essayist.
