Photographer Tatsuo Watanabe, who has photographed portraits of many celebrities over the years, will be holding a photo exhibition of his "Juei" project, which he started in 2011, from September 11th (Wednesday) at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 8th floor = Isetan Men's Residence. As a project to preserve the "bright faces" of the senior generation, the exhibition will showcase the bright and lively expressions of numerous celebrities.

"Juei" is a neologism coined by Tatsuo Watanabe, and it's a project he launched to create a new type of memorial portrait that "dispels the somber image of memorial portraits and allows people to be photographed with things they love that reflect their personality." The impetus for starting the "Juei" project was the passing of his father-in-law in 2011.
Under the theme of "Let's go to the afterlife with a smile!", Tatsuo Watanabe's photographs capture people's departure with their treasures in a gentle, joyful, and uniquely personal way. Many celebrities who agreed with this idea participated, and the process was featured as a serialized project in the magazine "Weekly Post". Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building will now be holding a special exhibition of these photographs.

Photographer: Tatsuo Watanabe
Born in Yamanashi Prefecture in 1949, he graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Seikei University. While still a student, he worked part-time at Sankei Publishing's "Weekly Sankei" and participated in the founding of Shogakukan's "GORO." Since then, he has worked on numerous projects for magazines such as "Sharaku," "Weekly Post," "Weekly Playboy," "Weekly Bunshun," "CanCam," and "Ane Can," as well as famous corporate commercials, records, and CD jackets, featuring artists ranging from Hibari Misora and Teresa Teng to idols.
