[Special Feature] Visiting the Master Craftsmen of Naples | Vol.3 Continued: The Ultimate Suit of a Man Who Strived for Perfection
Whether they are masters of classics or those who inherit traditions while taking on new challenges to suit the modern era, their approaches vary, but their attitude towards craftsmanship and the passion they harbor for each stitch are strong. This article is a record of interviews conducted in June 2019, following their visits in January, with Tomohiro Inaba and Yuki Kuchimoto, who are in charge of men's tailored clothing, to Naples, Italy. It focuses on "Neapolitan tailoring," which is only completed through delicate handiwork, and delves into the stories behind the people involved and the products.
In the third installment, we once again visit the workshop of Alfonso Sirica and report on the ultimate pattern-making technique that this man, who constantly strives for perfection, has arrived at.

"Violina," a new creation born from Silica's masterful pattern.
This time, Inaba and Kuchimoto revisited Alfonso Sirica's home and workshop in San Valentino Trio, near Naples, Italy.
As I mentioned last time , the greatness of Alfonso Sirica lies not in traditional Neapolitan tailoring or perfect pattern matching. It lies in the fact that he always prioritizes the wearer's comfort above all else.
After we had finished selecting and ordering fabrics for the next season, Silica herself made a suggestion to us.
"Why don't you try out the new pattern?"
We didn't think there was any need to change the pattern we were currently satisfied with, but the moment we tried it on, we found a quality that was so perfect that we regretted not having encountered it sooner.

"So surprising, aren't you? It's a 'Violina'*. A jacket that lets you play the violin while wearing it."
* "Violina" means violin.
Indeed, you can raise your arms without any stress. When I asked about it, he said that he had been sewing ready-made clothes using the same method as bespoke tailoring, but had been struggling for a long time with the question of what constitutes a perfect pattern.
It's no wonder. Silica is a tailor, and he listens to the requests of each customer who visits his workshop, conducts a fitting, and then sews each garment one by one.
"Of course, appearance and silhouette are important, but above all else, comfort is paramount. This pattern was created by constantly thinking about only that every single day."

There's a reason why it was named "Violina."
Silica had a customer who was a violinist. Of course, he played the violin while wearing a jacket, but he couldn't raise his arms to his satisfaction. The model was created based on the needs of this customer, which is why it was named "Violina."
