2019.09.19 update

The world's only department store that stocks rare fabrics.

If your favorite tailor contacts you saying, "We've got some rare fabric in stock," there's no reason for a bespoke clothing enthusiast to refuse. You visit the atelier on your next day off, and the owner solemnly brings out the precious fabric from the back of the shop. When you hear there's only enough for one garment, you can't leave without placing an order. You can experience this kind of secret pleasure with your favorite tailor at ISETAN MEN'S . The "Vintage Fabric Market," featuring fabrics carefully selected by our buyers, will appear this autumn on the 5th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building in the Made to Measure section.

Cesare Attolini suit: 583,200 yen
*Isetan Shinjuku store exclusive

Discovered in the warehouse of Cesare Attolini, this heavy flannel fabric features a subtle beige-tinged Glenurquhart check. The tightly woven texture, which you can feel with your fingertips, possesses a depth of character that cannot be replicated today.

The fancy check pattern from Ermenegildo Zegna comes with a folded tag that reads "TESUTO ERMENEGILDO ZEGNA," which I've never seen before.

Johnstons of Elgin was also dormant. The exquisite cashmere fabric with a gun club check pattern, which is rarely seen today, is appealing for its lightness due to the way the oil has been removed. ARISTON is a fabric merchant from Naples. When asked about the origin of the covert cloth, it was said that the mill at the time was Carlo Barbera, and that it was woven by the owner, Luciano Barbera, for himself.

For any custom tailoring enthusiast, the fact that this place, where such a coveted array of fabrics are gathered in one location, is merely a corner within a department store is nothing short of miraculous.
