Despite being called a "rebel of the fashion world," Alexander McQueen was loved by everyone from David Bowie and Björk to Lady Gaga and Kate Middleton. How did this young man from London's working class rise from penniless to a top designer? What was his life like, more dramatic than any drama, where he created clothes as if he were in love and even dedicated his life to them?

Currently, Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 3rd floor = Men's Designers is hosting a pop-up promotion from April 5th (Fri) to April 23rd (Tue) to commemorate the release of the film "McQueen: The Rebel of Fashion." During this period, it will be a special opportunity to enjoy Alexander McQueen's latest collection along with the film.

I first encountered his work in the late 1990s, when I was still a student. Back then, collection information didn't spread as quickly as it does today, and I heard there was an incredible designer in London, so I searched everywhere for his products. I finally found them somewhere in Tokyo, and captivated by the designs, I spent all the money I had at the time to buy his collection.

His work consistently features clear themes, and his runway shows, which express these themes through storytelling, often elicit mixed reactions, setting him apart from today's fashion scene, which is dominated by marketing.



While collections capable of such an impact are rare these days, he possessed the ambition to break new ground in fashion. I believe that the legacy he left behind, as one of the few artists who can truly be called a designer, will continue to be passed down to future generations.
