"We completed the renovation of the 5th floor in February, and we've finished creating 'Artisan,' a unique curated shop that brings together top brands unlike any other in the world. On the other hand, in 'International Selection,' which mainly features Italian brands and the latest items from around the world, we've always wanted to create a place where people can enjoy classic fashion with a free and sensible approach. Lately, there's been a lot of talk about a return to classic styles, British trends, or even American traditional style being the new thing. But I've been wondering what's really most fashionable right now. And that's how I finally arrived at the keyword 'traditional mix.' In reality, there are people who love traditional Italian classics and the traditional styles of Savile Row, but I want more people to know that there are also items that anyone can easily incorporate into their wardrobe."

Indeed, from the classic Italian boom of the 90s to the supremacy of Pitti Uomo, men's fashion that celebrates classics deepened, but at the same time, it tended to be seen as something only a select few enthusiasts could appreciate. While designer fashion and luxury houses have become streetwear-oriented, classics and dress and business attire have been left behind, and perhaps, without realizing it, they have ceased to be enjoyable as fashion.

"What I've come to realize again from interacting with the global market is that classic clothing is incredibly cool, whether in Italy, the UK, or other countries. The quality of the handcrafted work and the comfort of the wearer are things that have been cultivated through history and tradition, and that's where the value lies. I think it's a waste to ignore that and just pass it by. When I look at social media, there are so many well-dressed people like that. So I'm thinking, why not start by incorporating just one classic item into your usual styling, or by switching some of your usual items to classic brands?

For those who have previously enjoyed Italian and British styles, he recommends coordinating outfits without being bound by rules. This stems from Inaba's own experience of questioning the conventional wisdom of men's fashion.

"When I first joined the company, a senior colleague criticized my shirt and tie combination. Even though I understood intellectually why it was wrong, I felt a sense of defiance and thought, 'Why not just do my own version of classic style?' Now, I'm more realistic about that. A classic style that's rigidly bound by rules just looks like cosplay. Of course, it's important to know the rules of dressing, but I think there should be a more relaxed way to enjoy classic style."

Pairing a tailored jacket with an American button-down shirt or crewneck knit might seem like a rebellion against overly Italian style, but it works as a realistic dress casual look. Combining a suit with sportswear or adding sneakers to the outfit has also become popular.

Tomohiro Inaba is in charge of men's tailored clothing/international selection on the 5th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building .

"Most people in the Italian fashion industry don't always wear heavy classics anymore. They might be impeccably dressed at Pitti Uomo, but for dinner, they skillfully combine casual items to suit the place, time, and weather. ISETAN MEN'S wants to create opportunities for people to actually interact with these modern fashion icons."

The pop-up and trunk show, embodying Inaba's vision, will be held over two weeks starting March 16th (Saturday), coinciding with the completion of the entire building's renovation. A special event is also planned for March 23rd (Saturday). The role of "International Selection" is about to change dramatically as it aims to lead the way in classic music for a new era.
