From Wednesday, February 6th, Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 8th floor = Isetan Men's Residence will be showcasing Takafumi Arai's original items, including quilted tongues and tassels, all handcrafted using scrap leather.

Inspired by the ancient Japanese cultural practice of "boro," which involves patchwork-like stitching together old cloths, shoe designer Takafumi Arai creates unique shoes by piecing together leftover leather scraps that would otherwise be discarded. Self-taught, he crafted his shoes by hand, and in 2014, he won a special prize at the "International Talent Support (ITS)," a European competition often considered a stepping stone for young designers.
His innovative ideas extend beyond shoes to include shoe accessories such as kiltie tongues and tassels, as well as various other items like bow ties and shoehorns. He skillfully combines a wide variety of leathers with different colors and textures using his unique sensibility, creating one-of-a-kind pieces entirely by hand.


Making its debut Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , this time we will be focusing on popular quilted tongues and tassels, and will also be accepting custom orders for quilted tongues. (Order price: from 29,160 yen / Estimated delivery: approximately one week later)
Furthermore, Mr. Arai will be visiting the store for five days during the exhibition period and will be giving demonstrations of the production process. This will be a special opportunity to see the craftsmanship up close.
