To create a consistent user experience, the most time-consuming part is selecting the bristles.
My father tells me that I "do ordinary things in an ordinary way" (laughs), but the most time-consuming task is sorting the tail feathers.
If you build a house using undried, green wood, the pillars will crack or warp. However, we use hair imported from Canada and China and dry it through a process called "higoshi" to give it strength and resilience.
This is a snapshot from when they showed us the manufacturing process. Each brush is made through meticulous steps, and apparently one person can only make about a dozen brushes a month.
The meticulous work, which machines cannot replicate, dramatically improves the brush's usability.
Unlike commercially available horsehair brushes, ours uses undried, fresh bristles, so they tend to spread out over time. However, we dry out the bristles to maintain a consistent feel. While incorporating my father's ideas and ingenuity, I absolutely don't want to cut corners.
Following in my father's footsteps, I will continue to create "brushes that last a lifetime," so please use ISHIKAWA clothing brushes for your precious suits, jackets, knitwear, and more.
