[Episode 1] Major Makeover! Repair Before & After | A "Rider's Jacket" is revived with mold removal and redyeing!
Bringing wardrobe clutter back to life— SARTO , a clothing alteration workshop located in the Made to Measure section on the 5th floor of Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building showcases its expertise in a "clothing reform" project. For this first installment, a rider's jacket that had been gathering dust in the closet takes center stage. Hidemitsu Uchida, in charge of leather reform, explains the before and after.

"Because our job involves taking care of and repairing precious items, we strive to meet our customers' needs," says Hidemitsu Uchida of SALTO.
When I took it out of the closet, it was moldy and faded!
I bought this leather item intending to keep it for a lifetime, so I want to wear it carefully for a long time. Many customers request that I adjust the sleeve length, width, and shoulder width to accommodate changes in body shape, and also incorporate current trends, so they can "wear it again to fit their current body."
At the store, we carefully check the size while fitting the garment. We offer a variety of services, including fitting adjustments, zipper replacements, and repairs to worn linings. Rather than just alterations, one of the attractions is that you can have your "Can you do this?" requests brought to life, almost like a custom order.
The item we received from the customer this time is a single-breasted rider's jacket that was purchased about 10 years ago. There is mold growing in several places, and as a result, the color has faded from the shoulders to the sleeves.

First, the mold is thoroughly removed, and then the entire garment is re-dyed black using a special dye. However, instead of a brand-new black, the dye was carefully crafted to give it the look of a well-worn, vintage garment.

Furthermore, in response to customer requests for a "two-way" style, SARTO proposed creating a new detachable shearling collar that incorporates current trends. Ms. Uchida herself created the collar, searching for a material that matched the texture of the leather body, and finished it with shearling.

Then, about three weeks after receiving the jacket, the makeover was complete. The addition of a sheepskin collar significantly enhanced the look of the rider's jacket. Removing the mold and dyeing it black gave it a much sharper appearance, and the custom-made collar fit perfectly around the neck.

The renovation costs 30,000 to 35,000 yen (excluding tax)* for mold removal and color matching through dyeing, and 30,000 yen (excluding tax) for the creation of a detachable collar.
