We asked a representative from MONT BLANC about the appeal and proper handling of high-quality writing instruments.
We spoke with Takahide Ishida, who is in charge of MONTBLANC at the stationery corner of Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 8th floor = Isetan Men's Residence , about the appeal and handling of writing instruments.
Q1. What is the appeal of using high-quality writing instruments?
I think the main benefit is the satisfaction of knowing you're using a superior writing instrument .In the case of MONTBLANC , its appeal lies in the sense of ownership it offers, stemming from its brand's reputation, built over more than 110 years of history, including its use by renowned writers both domestically and internationally.

Takahide Ishida, who is in charge of the brand, says that when he was younger, he saw a senior colleague using MONTBLANC and was so inspired that he bought one himself.

The store offers a wide variety of models, from standard models to new releases and limited editions.
Q2. What prompts customers at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building to purchase writing instruments?
These days, it seems that many people are timing their purchase of a high-quality writing instrument, perhaps because they've been influenced by a respected boss or senior colleague who uses one, and they've come to believe it's a "sign of being a professional." Or they might decide to buy one after successfully closing a major business deal.
Alternatively, some men buy a fountain pen as a memento to commemorate a major life event, such as marriage.
Furthermore, pens are one of those items that are easily passed down from parent to child, much like watches.
One of the biggest attractions of fountain pens and ballpoint pens is that they can be engraved (name inscribed)*, and one customer came in saying, "I want to engrave my newborn child's name on a fountain pen." When we replied, "The engraving will take about two weeks," she said, "That's okay. I'll give it to them in 20 years," meaning she plans to give it to them when they come of age.
A pen is a life partner, something that will witness your growth and the growth of your family.
Recently, more and more people are choosing MONTBLANC 's classic "Meisterstück" model as a gift for women, and with women's increasing participation in the workforce, it seems that there will be more occasions for women to use high-quality writing instruments.
*Please note that engraving (name engraving) may not be available for some models. For details, please inquire with our staff.

Q3. How should you use and maintain ballpoint pens and fountain pens in different situations?
Many business people probably think, "I mainly use ballpoint pens for business (official) occasions, and fountain pens for special (private) occasions."
One of the reasons ballpoint pens have become so popular in Japan is likely the widespread use of carbon copy documents. In other countries, carbon copy documents are not always available, and rollerball pens seem to be more commonly used. A rollerball pen is a capped pen with water-based ink, and there's a certain sense of specialness in the act of removing the cap before writing.
If you consider only the pure act of "writing," fountain pens are very easy to write with because they don't cause fatigue. Fountain pens require regular maintenance as they can clog if not used regularly. If the ink flow becomes poor, thoroughly wash the nib with water and wipe it with a soft cloth.
If you are unable to perform maintenance yourself, we can take custody of your device and perform maintenance for a fee.
Q4. What can you gain from using your favorite writing instrument for a long time?
Using a pen you like is a wonderful thing, and it connects "writing" to "using something you cherish." No matter how advanced technology becomes, writing by hand and composing sentences will always be a way to express individuality and reflect your true self.
Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 8th floor, offers a wide selection of writing instruments from various brands, including MONTBLANC . Please come and find the perfect writing instrument to be your lifelong companion.
