LA SCALA Stories (1) A father's hopes entrusted to his child—"A custom-made suit for his child's first birthday"
LA SCALA , run by tailor Nobuhito Yamaguchi, who is permanently stationed at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building presents "The Bond Between Parents and Children Across Generations"—the first installment features an episode about the "small bespoke suit" that Eiichi Haba, sales manager in charge of business clothing on the 5th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building had made to commemorate his eldest son's first birthday.

A special suit tailored to commemorate your child's growth.
When we think of "formal attire for boys," we usually picture the hakama or suit worn by five-year-old boys for Shichi-Go-San (a traditional Japanese rite of passage for children). However, the boy who appeared in the studio was Soichiro Haba, who is 80cm tall and turned one this August. We were immediately surprised by the neat and well-fitting silhouette of his suit, which was not the baggy style often seen on children.
Haba, who posed for a photo with Soichiro, said, "The reason I joined Mitsukoshi Isetan was because my late father said, 'I want to shop at Isetan.' Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go shopping with him, but last year, Soichiro was born, and I thought, 'I want to have a suit made for this child,' so I asked Mr. Yamaguchi at La Scala to make one for me."

Soichiro's name comes from the character "Rō" (朗) given to him by a respected superior, and the character "Sō" (蒼) was chosen with the hope that he would grow up to be a person of great character. Seeing him in the special suit tailored by Yamaguchi, he realized once again that "clothes are an item that can make a person stand out." He seemed deeply moved, saying, "He's become a real man, he's growing up."

Since Haba only wears plain suits, Souichiro's suit was made with a plain jacket and trousers. Considering his childlike physique with a thick neck and protruding belly, the jacket was made with a single button for a better fit. Super 150's fabric was used.

Upon seeing the finished suit, Haba's stylists also praised its quality, exclaiming, "Amazing!" Yamaguchi, who watched the photoshoot with a smile, commented, "I don't think one-year-old Soichiro can feel how the suit feels, but I hope that this photo of the three of them—father, mother, and son—will become an irreplaceable memory for both the Haba family and Soichiro."

Suits are becoming a new tradition for the staff Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building
Regarding the suit, Haba commented, "When I ordered it from Mr. Yamaguchi, I didn't want it to be a size that could be worn for many years, so although Soichiro will soon outgrow it, I hope it can be passed down to the child of one of my juniors."
"When Soichiro grows up, I want to tell him, 'The first suit you ever wore was one made by Mr. Yamaguchi,' and I want Soichiro to think, 'I've been wearing Super 150'S suits since I was one year old.'"
This suit, which will be passed down to Haba's juniors, is sure to become a new tradition for the staff of Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building .
