This time, we asked three common questions to the nine painters who will be performing live painting at "SOUL CAMP 2018 at ISETAN," which will be held from Wednesday, September 12th to Monday, September 17th at the event space on the 6th floor of the main building. Each of their answers, which reflect their individual personalities, is sure to raise expectations for their performances on the day.

—When you hear the themes of "SOUL CAMP" and "hip hop," what kind of pictures do you imagine you want to create?
I want to avoid being too conscious of it. I myself like artists with a broad perspective who aren't confined to any particular genre. I hope to be able to express my own interpretation and my own unique style.

──Please tell us about your enthusiasm for performing a "live painting" in an unusual environment like Isetan Shinjuku.
I'm really happy because it's an opportunity to be seen by a large number of people, and to interact with people from cultures I don't usually interact with. I know there are people who stick to the underground scene, but I want to act on my own judgment and in a neutral way, so if I have the opportunity, I want to actively go out into wider areas.

—What aspects of your work would you like your audience to see?
I think it's fine for viewers to have their own freedom in how they interpret it. I have a clear message I want to convey, but I hope that viewers will watch it and feel something through their own filters. I don't intend to force my opinions on anyone, and for example, with movies or music, the creator has their own intentions, but I think that the audience receives something completely different. I think that's perfectly fine with art.
