Following the success of our men's fashion consultation from a woman's perspective at the last men's fair, we are pleased to welcome back men's fashion writer Naoyumi Maruyama this autumn. According to Ms. Maruyama, women "pay close attention to every detail of a man's outfit." She provided insightful commentary on everything from winter coats to autumnal jackets and pants, and even footwear.

With the motto of gently guiding fashion novices towards becoming "stylish men," I work as a men's fashion writer. In addition to writing, I am also involved in planning and branding for men's brands.

The clean look and smart silhouette of a Chester coat make it suitable for any occasion and create a polished yet relaxed feel. I've never heard a woman around me say she dislikes Chester coats! It's especially nice when it's part of a special outfit that gives off the feeling of "I chose this outfit just to meet you."

Since the coat dominates the entire outfit, choosing a bright, pretty color will enhance the sophisticated impression. Blue is especially recommended as it doesn't look "overdone." As shown in the picture, simply draping a scarf casually inside the coat makes it look even more stylish.


Large, brightly colored scarves might seem stylish and appealing, but they often don't suit Japanese facial features. Classic patterns like houndstooth and stripes are generally more popular with women. Be careful how you tie them; wrapping them too loosely can look unfashionable.
