A stylist from the men's department explains how to choose the right ready-made shirt.(1/6)
Hanano, a stylist at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building commented, "Whether it's ready-made or custom-made, the fit is crucial when choosing a shirt. No matter how well-tailored a shirt is, you won't be able to appreciate its quality if the size isn't right. Therefore, it's essential to first know your own size correctly, starting with the neck and sleeve length, then shoulder width, chest circumference (body width), and even the overall length."
For those who say, "I know size is important, but I don't know which one suits me...", Hanano has picked out ready-made shirts from representative brands available at Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 1st floor = Dress Shirts & Ties section, and will explain the characteristics of each shirt and the body types they suit.
When trying on a shirt, it's important to have someone look at it from the back as well!
"Our shirt stylists select ready-made shirts that fit the customer's size, and after they try them on, they check the fit around the neck, shoulders, and sleeve length, and then they look at the customer's back. The back is a part that customers can't see themselves. Paying attention to details such as ensuring the shirt looks beautiful from all angles, front, back, left, and right, and even the parts that are hidden by the jacket, creates a sense of exclusivity and makes the customer feel even more attached to the shirt," says Hanano.
According to Hanano, among customers purchasing ready-made shirts on the same floor, about 90% of those buying imported brands and about 70% of those buying domestic brands try them on. "I've noticed that many customers are very particular about the fit. Also, once you've found a shirt that fits you, be sure to have a stylist check how it looks from behind. That's the secret to becoming a 'shirt expert'," she advises.
This article explains five ready-made shirt brands, selected from both imported and domestic brands.
In this article, Hanano selects three items from imported brands and two from domestic brands, and will provide commentary on aspects such as silhouette and fit.
"All the imported brands we're introducing today are from Naples, Italy. Their appeal lies not only in the quality of the materials, but also in the soft, comfortable feel that only hand-stitched garments can offer when worn in the correct size, as well as the beauty of the collars and silhouettes. In contrast, domestic brands are literally made for Japanese people, so you can wear them with confidence in terms of sizing and materials," he added.
Furthermore, the characteristics of each shirt are divided into five categories and rated on a five-point scale, and images of stylists with different body types wearing the shirts are also included. We hope this will be helpful in choosing a shirt that suits your own body type.
