Ryuu Koyama
A brewer who brings out the charm of the vineyard
One of the most talked-about wine-producing regions in New Zealand recently is the Waipara Valley. It is here that Mr. Koyama makes wine. He moved to New Zealand in 2003 and the following year he joined the famous winery "Mountford Estate." After gaining five years of experience, he launched his own brand, "Koyama Wines." In 2017, he made headlines when he bought out his former employer, "Mountford Estate," as the new owner.
Mr. Koyama, who has contracts with three vineyards, says that even within the same Waipara Valley, the nuances of the wine differ greatly depending on the vineyard. The wine featured this time is a challenging one that harmonizes the individuality of these vineyards to create a new taste.
