The expressions "Every day is new" are similar in the world of department stores and the world of flowers.
—Could you tell us about the key points of department store decoration?
Having worked at Mitsukoshi myself, I understand this well: department stores prioritize the customer's perspective not only in their merchandise but also in their decorations. While exhibitions and hotel decorations may require unconventional designs, everything in department stores is based on "how the customer will enjoy it." Department stores' approach of "anticipating the seasons" is similar to the world of flowers; we consider decorations that allow customers to feel the coming season in a space designed for them.
--Do you also keep an eye on fashion trends, such as colors?
Of course, I keep up with information on fashion shows and such, but I feel that my job as a flower designer is similar to that of a fashion buyer. I select products from the customer's perspective, of course, but each selection always has its own individuality and sensibility, and I think the excitement of a "treasure hunt" in the store, the joy of searching, is similar to how I feel when I look for flowers in the market.

--Please share one tip for Isetan Men's Net readers on how to properly handle flowers.
Many of our readers probably buy flowers often, so let me share some tips for buying flowers smartly. First, a good flower shop is one that has more greenery than flowers; just take a quick look around and you'll see a large area of greenery in the storefront. Since greenery is used in arrangements, they should be able to create a variety of designs for you.
Another tip for choosing flowers is that when you leave the bouquet or arrangement up to the florist, the magic phrase is to tell them the time you will give the flowers, for example, "I'll give them to her at 7 PM today." Male customers often describe the recipient as "a woman in her 30s, who does this kind of work, and is this kind of person," or "I think she likes roses," or "She's in her 40s, so let's focus on purple," but all of this is essentially uncertain information. It's much easier for the florist to create a beautiful bouquet that will be at its peak at that time, and they can arrange the flowers in their best condition. Please keep this in mind.
