Known as one of Japan's leading umbrella manufacturers, Maehara Koei Shoten was founded in 1948 in Taito Ward, a downtown area of Tokyo, and is committed to "Made in Japan" manufacturing that utilizes the skills of Japanese craftsmen.
The traditional Western-style umbrellas created by the founder, Mitsue, the second generation, Yuji, and the third generation, Shinji, are crafted using refined components, such as silk umbrellas, umbrellas covered in batik-dyed fabric, and umbrellas with handles made from natural wood.

From Wednesday, March 29th, we will be holding a limited-time order event for Maehara Kouei Shoten. You can customize "masterpieces" that have been loved by many famous people to your own liking.

Each umbrella is handcrafted by skilled artisans, resulting in a unique, one-of-a-kind piece.

Maehara Koei Shoten believes that the four "person" characters within the Japanese character for "umbrella" represent the number of artisans responsible for the four processes: fabric, frame, handle, and finishing. Through the fusion of these artisans, umbrellas that combine refined beauty and functionality are created. Each step of the process is carefully carried out by hand, guided by the experience and intuition of the craftsmen.
Maehara Koei Shoten is famous for its 16-rib umbrellas, which have a beautiful, nearly circular silhouette when open. However, they also offer stylish 12-rib umbrellas, as well as 10-rib and 8-rib umbrellas. The handles that are beautifully paired with these umbrellas are often made from natural materials such as maple and oak, and each one has a different texture and appearance, becoming a cherished item the more you use it.

From Wednesday, March 29th, we will be introducing our new 2017 umbrella collection. At our men's umbrella order event, you can select from approximately 80 types of fabric colors and patterns, as well as the number and length of the ribs. You can also order your umbrella in your preferred combination of materials for the handle and the color of the tip. We will have 13 types of handles for long umbrellas and 8 types for folding umbrellas.
Additionally, on April 8th (Sat) and 9th (Sun), we will be holding demonstrations where you can watch artisans making umbrellas up close. Custom orders will also be accepted on the same day during these two demonstration days.
