From Monday, December 26th, the Sekitowa promotion will be held at the International Luxury section on the 4th floor Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building . We will deliver beloved items with the belief that the combination of unique entities will lead to universal value that will last for 100 years to come.

Now in its second season, the theme for the Fall/Winter 2016 collection is "Jet Black." Focusing on the technique of "lacquer," the collection features kitchen items such as wine openers that use the traditional Niigata lacquerware technique called "Oborogin-nuri" to create a metallic texture, as well as sake cups and attaché cases finished with Kyoto lacquer, and blousons and bags made with "Kurozan-gawa" leather from Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, which was also used in samurai armor. These are just some of the unique combinations that only Sekitowa can offer.

Kurozan leather is said to have been used for the armor of high-ranking generals during the Sengoku period. Raw cowhide from domestic cows is tanned white, then impregnated with "tannins" extracted from plants and liquid "iron" to make it black. Lacquer is applied to the grain of the leather by hand, and the drying process is repeated many times to create a beautiful, glossy grain with a deep color, known as the "black diamond."

The bags are crafted using the meticulous edge-finishing techniques that Somes has cultivated over many years, producing jockey saddles and equestrian equipment for the Imperial Household Agency, resulting in a beautiful, glossy finish.
The smooth, sweeping curves of the flap are inspired by the design of a saddle. The stitching, honed through years of experience in saddle making, is meticulous and precise, resulting in a durable and beautiful garment.
