The new item being unveiled this time is "Sashiko BLACK".

Was this a concept they had been developing for many years, and why did they choose black?

When I thought about how to make the most of the Katsuyuki sashiko material, I thought, "If there's indigo, then the next thing should be black," because black is classic. It was that simple of an idea. I don't like to be constrained by anything or think rigidly by rules. Instead of defining it as ladies' or gentlemen's, I came up with the idea of black sashiko as something that everyone would want to wear.
I think that by changing the color instead of relying solely on Reo-ai (a type of indigo dye), a new challenge emerged. Unlike indigo, which makes the pattern stand out, I discovered that with black, the pattern sinks in. Using that sinking effect as a hint, my ideas expanded to include things like combining it with leather or wondering what would happen if I added studs. Sashiko is truly a material with great depth.
Katsuyuki: Black is a formal color, but it also works in punk. I didn't intentionally choose black, but I think that kind of interesting aspect is amazing.

Reo: I've come up with several exhibition ideas for this "Sashiko BLACK" collection, but they're basically the same as the previous indigo collection. Since it's "SASHIKO LOVE," I want to cherish warmth and comfort. Without that, it wouldn't be PORTER CLASSIC.

In January 2017, "PC SASHIKO" expanded into Paris, a city that Katsuyuki himself has a deep attachment to.

It will be available at The Japan Store ISETAN MITSUKOSHI.

Katsuyuki: Having always focused on "Made in Japan" products, I'm simply thrilled to have the opportunity to show "PC SASHIKO" in Paris. In Paris, I plan to meet with museum and library curators, bringing materials to explain "PC SASHIKO." I'm sure they'll appreciate its quality.
My father, Reo , has a special fondness for Paris, so I want to support his artistic expression there. PORTER CLASSIC was started by just the two of us, so I understand that. My father is a dreamer who brings happiness to people. I want to support his fantasy of "Wouldn't it be cool to wear sashiko in Paris?"
It's more fun to keep dreaming. My dream right now is to see people wearing sashiko as uniform in Tokyo in 2020.
