"Right now, there's a growing sense that Japanese brands can compete on a global level. The youthful vibe we see in Tokyo is probably fresh to the rest of the world. Creating based on our own sensibilities while working in Tokyo is original in itself, and I don't think it can be imitated anywhere else in the world. This autumn/winter collection is meant to convey even the smallest details of Tokyo, carefully and thoroughly."

This season's collection theme is "Slopes, Water, and Light." Tokyo is a city with many slopes and is also a city of water. The image of "light filtering through the gaps between buildings onto the asphalt" captures the essence of Tokyo's streets.

"I'm from Tokyo myself, but I focused on aspects I hadn't noticed before. I wanted to express something that undeniably symbolizes Tokyo and connect it to fashion."

From the Spring/Summer 2017 collection

This approach would be carried over to the next collection. The Spring/Summer 2017 collection, presented in Paris, was both a culmination of everything up to that point and a new starting point for reaching out to the world.

"It's kind of like a greatest hits compilation. When our brand was sought after in Paris, we wanted to carefully reintroduce it. This collection is the result of thoroughly exploring how to express our Tokyo youth sensibilities and the inspirations we cherish."

This fall/winter and next spring/summer collections represent a significant step forward. However, the future she envisions is closely connected to reality.

"Even if you imagine your goals and dreams and make plans, the real world is full of unexpected events. So, when it comes to taking action in response to those events, FACETASM wants to be a team that can respond flexibly at any time. We want to stay true to our originality without wavering in the current trends in Tokyo."
