[Mirai's Summer Gift] Nicolai Bergmann | A fresh hydrangea flower arrangement for that special someone on this day.
In Denmark, hydrangeas are carefully cultivated, moved indoors and outdoors depending on the climate, and given as gifts to loved ones. For "Summer Gifts of the Future," Danish flower artist Nicolai Bergmann chose an arrangement of hydrangeas, one of his favorite flowers. We spoke with Takuya Nishigaki, manager of Nicolai Bergmann Flowers & Design Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building 8th floor = Isetan Men's Residence.

Giving form to Nicolai Bergmann's feelings towards hydrangeas.
While hydrangeas are associated with the rainy season in Japan, they are cultivated in Japan until around the end of August, and are also imported from the Netherlands and South Korea, making them available year-round. Nicolai Bergmann has many favorite flowers, but the hydrangea he chose for this "Summer Gift of the Future" is one that he cherishes very much. Hydrangeas have many varieties, and the subtle differences in color and petal shape give them different nuances, making them appealing because they can change their appearance to match the image you have in mind.
Hydrangeas are my favorite flower too. Because I handle countless flowers on a daily basis, when I give flowers to someone, I want to create an arrangement using my favorite flowers. Hydrangeas have a unique texture, and in that sense, they are special flowers that evoke special feelings.

The color of the hydrangea will depend on "when you place your order," which is part of the fun!
At Nicolai Bergmann Flowers & Design on the 8th floor of Isetan Shinjuku Store, Men's Building , the standard arrangements involve using many small flowers such as roses and carnations to create round arrangements or placing them in flower boxes. However, this "Summer Gift of the Future" arrangement uses the hydrangea itself as the base, making the most of the size of a single flower, which is about the size of a human face, and finishing it off by inserting nuanced flowers in the gaps.
Today, we've selected purple and pink hydrangeas, but we also have green and blue varieties, and the selection changes depending on what's in stock each day, so please come and see what color hydrangeas you'll get!

Nicolai Bergmann's unique creativity shines through.
Our customers are roughly half men and half women. Many of the women love flowers and have knowledge about seasonal flowers and what's in season, while men tend to be there more for gifts. We often hear customers say things like, "I like the design," or "I like the volume because a lot of flowers are used." A popular characteristic of Nicolai Bergmann's arrangements is their compact style, but customers seem to understand that we use far more flowers than they appear, and that it takes more than twice the effort and time of a regular arrangement.
I believe Nicolai Bergmann is an artist who has taken a new approach to flower design. While flowers themselves have a feminine image, he has drawn inspiration from delicate Japanese techniques to create "flower boxes," and has introduced a dynamic, architectural design approach, creating the space in which the flowers are placed rather than just arranging them. He is constantly challenging himself with new things.

The secret to successful flower arranging is to "leave more than half of it to the professional."
When giving flowers as a gift, many men tend to be particular about the details, but the secret to ordering a good flower arrangement is to "leave more than half of it to the florist." If you tell them your color preferences, budget, and the purpose of the gift, the florist, being a flower expert, will create an arrangement with the best flowers available at that time.

Let's give flowers as a gift, cherishing the joy and excitement of a surprise.
If you're looking to give flowers in a stylish way, our signature item, the "Flower Box," is popular for its surprising effect: when you open the chic black box, a vibrant array of flowers bursts into view. I myself cherish the joy and excitement of surprise when I give flowers as a gift. I want to give flowers not just for special occasions or places, but with the feeling that they will add color to someone's everyday lifestyle.
This year's "Summer Gift of the Future" is perfect not only as a mid-year gift to express your gratitude, but also as a gift to bring to your parents' home when you visit during the summer holidays. Hydrangeas are easy to dry, so after enjoying them fresh, you can remove the flowers and make dried flowers. In that sense, hydrangeas, which can be enjoyed for a long time, are truly a "Summer Gift of the Future." At our store, you can see the arrangements in person, and our professional florists will be happy to give you advice on how to enjoy and care for them, so please feel free to stop by.
