COMME des GARCONS and D&DEPARTMENT have opened a pop-up shop called "GOOD DESIGN SHOP" on the 1st floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building until April 5th. Based on the philosophy of COMME des GARCONS designer Rei Kawakubo, "Strong creation is eternal. Items that have been supported as classics for a long time are also strong creations," the shop has gathered timeless items. WWD Japan visited this unique shop. Read on to find out more about this shop that will surely make you want to visit.

Exploring the philosophies of Comme des Garçons and D&Department through their classic pieces.

This pop-up shop was launched as part of "Japan Senses," a campaign by the Mitsukoshi Isetan Group to promote the value of Japanese craftsmanship both domestically and internationally. The "Good Design Shop" project was realized with the aim of revitalizing Japan's next-generation fashion scene. In today's world, where customer preferences are diversifying, the shop focuses on the essence of items using contrasting values such as "past" and "future," and "handmade" and "industrial" as keywords, and has gathered universally good products. There are no pop-up displays with names or uses written on the products. Leaving it to the senses of the person using the clothes or items is also part of the charm of the "Good Design Shop."

The items featuring the revived "CDG" airline logo, which was used in the past, were sensational and strong designs that boldly incorporated the brand logo, and they continue to be loved as classics. Past items can feel nostalgic or fresh depending on the generation. The collection includes hoodies, sweatshirts, cut-and-sew tops, bags, and more.

Scarves remade from vintage scarves, one-of-a-kind T-shirts made from deadstock fabrics, and garment-dyed T-shirts from "Play Comme des Garçons" are unique products that express the essence of craftsmanship.

The staff coat, a must-have for fans, was originally made as a staff uniform for a 1980s collection. A patchwork knit tote bag will also be available for purchase.

The colorful shoe boxes on display utilize fabric samples that had been lying dormant in warehouses across production areas nationwide. The same goes for the tote bags. For this pop-up shop, we selected fabrics with colors and patterns that are characteristic of Good Design Shop. The glasses are also recycled dead stock that beverage manufacturers had previously produced for giveaways or promotional items, with the print "Only honest design can be recyclable" added to them.
