Sawano Kobo is one of Japan's proud independent jazz labels.

Without overthinking things, as Mr. Sawano says, "Isn't it enough if it sounds pleasant to listen to?", Sawano Kobo continues to deliver high-quality music from its unique perspective, carefully selecting only the best recordings from modern jazz in Europe, America, and Japan. It is Japan's leading jazz label, discovering unknown artists from both Japan and abroad, producing them, and handling CD production and sales.

Reasons why they are called up-and-coming talents

It was originally a shoe store, and even today, they sell jazz LPs and CDs in that same shoe store. It all started as a long-established shoe store that has been in business since 1913 in the Shinsekai shopping district of Osaka. About 30 years ago, Yoshiaki Sawano, the current representative of Sawano Kobo, started exporting Japanese jazz records that he had collected as a hobby, at the invitation of his brother who had emigrated to France, and that led to the establishment of the jazz label.

Eventually, driven by a desire to share overseas jazz with people in Japan, he began importing music, and has now gained such trust within the jazz label world that major CD shops have dedicated Sawano Kobo corners. He also sells LPs and CDs at a shoe store in Osaka.


During this period, we will be demonstrating and selling titles that are not usually available. In addition, on Thursday, June 25th, we will be holding a one-night-only event. Yoshiaki Sawano, the company's representative, will be visiting the store on the day of the event. He will introduce the world of Sawano Jazz, sharing stories about discovering artists and behind-the-scenes anecdotes about production secrets. Enjoy a luxurious time with Hennessy cognac, which is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year.
